We played and sang a variety of Christmas songs, and all 59 residents who had come sang right along with us. We had lots of fun practicing and preparing, and even more fun performing. Three of the strummers were brand new players, and it gave us a chance to show everyone that it is rather easy to learn to play a ukulele. We are always welcoming new players, and we have loaner ukuleles for anyone who wants to learn to play. We meet every Friday at 1 pm in the Annex, and we invite anyone to visit and sing with us. For more information, please contact me at the number above. Colony Strummers By Judy Moore, 949-468-7375 Introduction to Guitar Lessons By Joe Roux 12 (+ 1) wks : April–June 2026 Colony residents only, no fee, 10 student maximum group class. Focus on learning how to play the instrument, some music theory included. Chords, chords, chords. You must learn the instrument and gain proficiency (i.e., chord shape, fingering accuracy, speed) with chords before you can play songs. First few weeks will have you building a chord repertoire and develop the ability to execute playing chords (muscle memory). Ideal end state: You will be able to play chord progressions without thinking about the chord shape, and you can play along in time with your (beginner) song of choice. Requirements: Commitment (>>> PRACTICE <<<), six string acoustic or electric guitar (amp not required for class), tuner, pick, internet access, email address, printer, three ring binder. Ability to memorize note locations and patterns. Hearing aids OK. Long nails a challenge. Not recommended for those with finger disabilities. If you have, or can borrow, a guitar – great (new strings recommended). If you need to buy your first guitar, then week 0 is just for you. Let me advise and assist you – there are a LOT of good used guitars available under $400. (Don't buy an expensive guitar until you know you are going to stick with it.)
