| THE COLONY NEWS | FEBRUARY 2026 | 3 From the Desk of Chuck Gordon Beyond the Numbers: Life in e Colony When most people think of the HOA Treasurer, they picture spreadsheets, financial statements, and budgets. And yes, that is a big part of my role, but there is more to me than numbers. e HOA Side: With the collaboration of Jim Morgan and the Finance Advisory Committee, we have completed the drafts of the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The Board will review it this month and make a final decision on its approval. A well-planned budget ensures our amenities stay top-notch and our neighborhood thrives. Life Beyond the Board: When I am not crunching numbers for the HOA, you will find me on the tennis courts, swimming laps, working out in the gym, or walking Molly, my newly-adopted rescue dog, around our beautiful neighborhood. And of course, I love being part of the Actors Studio Colony drama club. I had the distinct pleasure of leading the improv class last year. It is a terrific way to connect with friends, through creativity and laughter. Creativity and laughter bring people together, just like good governance does. e Balance: Serving on the Board while pursuing my hobbies and other community activities complement each other. It allows me to be involved with diverse groups of people with varied interests in our community. I got to know the sports enthusiasts who grace our tennis and pickle and paddle tennis courts. People who use our pool and gym. I got to know the creative personalities in our acting club, and the improv class. The wonderful people in our Wine Club and of course, the business-minded folks serving on our Board, the Finance Committee, and our wonderfully talented HOA staff. Overall, I have come to realize that budgeting and the work of the Treasurer requires precision, while improv thrives on spontaneity. Both teach me f lexibility and teamwork and the love of being around and enjoying the people in our community. The Colony isn't just where I live, it's where I belong.
