18 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | FEBRUARY 2026 | Happy Valentine's Day! For centuries quilts have displayed this unique holiday with dancing cupids across a background of fancy stitches in pinks and reds. Of course, hearts and f lowers continue to be the choice favorite, but what about sending a deeper message of true love. Nancy Alaksin accomplished just that with her beautiful Asian motif of cranes and f lowers. Symbolic of love itself, cranes pair bond for life, forming lifelong partnerships. With a life expectancy of over 60 years, this behavior leads to their association with love and fidelity signifying harmonious relationship and deep emotional connection. True love. The 12 hearts, neatly designed in four rows of three by Janet Swindell, demonstrate the heartfelt gesture of love for every month, reminding us that love isn't just celebrated in February. Cleta Colston's BoHo Heart, designed in the popular 'scrappy quilt' pattern, is the blending and color coordination of leftover 'scraps' of fabric, illustrating the origin of quilting. Speaking of origins, the most interesting observance was stated by a Presenter on the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. While describing the many diverse genres of Rock 'n Roll, he was quoted saying, "Like a giant quilt all sewn together, we as performers, writers, musicians and vocalists have a story to tell and we tell it beautifully through the combinations of our talents." Isn't that so true of Quilters as well? Like the musicians, composers and artists all gathered at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on November 8, 2025, we too glean that same synergy from one another. Like Rock 'n Roll, our craft is a treasure trove of history, memorabilia, and fascinating stories, all stitched together making beautiful music together. We have a correction to January's article: 'Beautifully created for Christmas by our members, Pat Spurgeon, Janell Lamb, and Janet Swindell.' Seasons Quilters meets every Thursday in the Arts & Crafts Room from 10 am to 4 pm breaking for lunch at the Bistro at 12:30 pm. In February our meetings will be on the 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th. For more information about quilting, activities, fun projects and forming forever friendships, stop by the Arts & Crafts Room and see what's sewing! We would love to meet you.
