32 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | FEBRUARY 2026 | Strength training is incredibly beneficial for people over 60. It helps maintain muscle mass, bone density and overall well-being. BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! SASY is a small social group, wanting to grow larger, so is a great way for newcomers and old timers to get to know one another. We range from athletes to couch potatoes. We meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 8:30 am in The Lodge Ballroom. Some come anytime between 8 am and class to have a cup of coffee. It's a fun way to start the day and meet neighbors. While we stretch and lift to 12 recorded exercises, sitting in or standing behind chairs, we talk, share and, those that can, follow up by chatting at an informal non-hosted breakfast in the Bistro. You may wonder… Can a Person Build Muscle Aer 60? Absolutely! While age related muscle loss (sarcopenia) is real, it's not irreversible. Strength training can help you gain muscle mass even in your golden years. The right combination of strength and holistic health can make a significant difference. Why is Strength Training Important in Older Adults? Maintain Bone Density: Both women and men are susceptible to bone loss after age 30. Strength training exposes your bones to mechanical load, helping maintain or increase bone mass and density. SASY is strength training with only 12 exercises for arms, legs and torso. The class is free. Again, we are a fun social/exercise group meeting in The Lodge Ballroom at 8:30 am, every Tuesday and Thursday. If you have questions regarding this class, please call Char Weakley at (951) 926-2599 or Cherrie Rau at (951) 282-8227. Strong Adults Stay Young (SASY) BALANCE & STABILITY: This chair-based class is designed to improve balance and stability in everyday life. These exercises are great for fall prevention. We will also focus on range of motion, flexibility, and deep stretching. Participants will work and their own pace and comfort level 1-2-3-pound weights will be optional. CARDIO CIRCUIT: This class is taught by our certified instructor and will offer cardio conditioning and functional strengthening. The class consists of light cardio conditioning, strength circuits with light weights (two to five pounds), balance drills, and followed up with a soothing stretch. Chair options are given. YOGA BALANCE: This class will focus on balance, stability, core strength, and deep stretching. You will flow through a variety of poses led by our certified instructor. She will guide you through the practice offering modifications and plenty of chair options. ZUMBA GOLD: This is a low impact, high energy dance fitness class. It consists of easy-to-follow dance routines mixed with low impact exercises. This class will get your heart rate up. You can freestyle or modify as needed, just enjoy the music, and keep moving.
