| THE COLONY NEWS | MARCH 2026 | 31 Introduction to Guitar Lessons By Joe Roux, 949-813-4526 12 (+ 1) wks : April–June 2026 Lessons: Colony residents only, no fee, 10 student maximum group class. Focus: learning how to play the instrument, some music theory included. Chords, chords, chords. You must learn the instrument and gain proficiency (i.e., chord shape, fingering accuracy, speed) with chords before you can play songs. First few weeks will have you building a chord repertoire and developing the ability to execute playing chords (muscle memory). Ideal end state: You will be able to play chord progressions without thinking about the chord shape, and you can play along in time with your (Beginner) song of choice. Requirements: COMMITMENT (>>> PRACTICE <<<), six string acoustic or electric guitar (amp not required for class), tuner, pick, internet access, email address, printer, three-ring binder. Ability to memorize note locations and patterns. Hearing aids OK. Long nails a challenge. Not recommended for those with finger disabilities. If you have, or can borrow, a guitar – great (new strings recommended). If you need to buy your first guitar, then week 0 is just for you. Let me advise and assist you; there are a LOT of good used guitars available under $400. (Don't buy an expensive guitar until you know you are going to stick with it.) Contact: joerouxpmp@gmail.com or number above. Say it with music! "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" Are you suffering with a "Cold, Cold Heart?" "Imagine" being happy, and "Be-bop-a-Lula" to the Annex to join with the Strummers on Fridays at 1 pm. Come "Enjoy Yourself " and get a little "Crazy," while you "Play A Simple Melody." You can "Let the Rest of the World Go By" and know that "Memories Are Made of This." Instead of being "Oh Lonesome Me," you can be "Young at Heart." No musical background is necessary to learn to play the ukulele. The only thing you need is the desire to learn. Colony Strummers By Judy Moore, 949-468-7375 By Judy Moore, 949-468-7375 March is the month for "wearin' of the green," and the Singles will be right in step with Corned Beef for our dinner on Monday, March 9. For entertainment, we will have "Kai, the Oldies Guy," who will be performing the biggest hits from the 40s to the 70s. He has entertained multiple 55+ communities from LaJolla to Corona, and he performed for us last November. Kai transforms the stage into a theater-like concert experience you definitely won't forget! He is high energy, and he encourages the audience to sing along. He truly is a one-man show. The meal price is $23 for members, $26 for guests. Your membership dues of $25/year were due last month. All checks, payable to Colony Singles, need to be in the box at reception no later than Monday, March 2. To cancel or change your dinner reservation you must notify Paula Parra at 949-868-6550 by March 2. If this will be your first time joining us, your dinner price will be $15. Please let Paula Parra know so we can have a greeter meet you. We're looking forward to seeing you at 5 pm in the Auditorium on March 9. Bring money for the 50/50 drawing (if you wish), and BYOB. Colony Singles By Jan Foster The Actors Studio's Improv classes are in full swing. We meet every Monday and Wednesday at 6:15 pm in the Annex and occasionally on stage in the Auditorium. We welcome all of you who would like to join in the fun and have some laughs. Who knows? You might even have a hidden talent! Hopefully, auditions and rehearsals will be in progress this month for the comedy play planned for June. Flyers will be in the Clubhouse, and emails will be sent to encourage anyone who would like to participate in the production, whether with a speaking part or with technical assistance, promotion, scenery, host and hostesses, waiters for the Saturday dinner play and the Sunday matinee (without food service). If you would like to participate, we have a job for you! So don't be shy; come and experience the delights of the theatrical world! Our mission is to entertain residents of The Colony and their friends. Do not hesitate to contact Greg Hill at (951) 526-9896 or Chuck Gordon at (661) 714-3847 with any questions you may have.
