| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2026 | 45 THE YIDDISH CULTURE CLUB WELCOMES ALL RESIDENTS OF ANY DENOMINATION YCC Presents Celebration of Purim and Author Reading on March 11, at 7 pm in the North Clubhouse. Members are free. Guests are $5. No reservations required. Purim is a celebration of survival! We tell the story of our salvation from the Persians. Drown out the bad (Haman) with groggers and drink to the good (Esther) with wine. We will have traditional humantashen, coee, and tea. In keeping with this joyful festivity, we will have an author read. Presenting author Marcie Maxeld and her new book Jew Girl. Followed by questions and answers and her book will be for sale. Marcie Maxeld's voice is erce, authentic, and personal. Her debut novel, Em's Awful Good Fortune, is based on her experiences living overseas as a tag-along wife. Her play Girls Together Always — a collection of coming-of-age stories about "growing up girl" — won the ENCORE! Producer's Award at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Maxeld lives in Los Angeles, where she is a teen mentor and teaches writing for a non-prot organization dedicated to empowering girls through creativity. She is married with two kids, a French bulldog, and two rescue cats named Hunky and Dory. ey live in Los Angeles, CA. Jew Girl by Marcie Maxeld is the book all Jews and non- Jews alike should read. It's part memoir, part historical, and beautifully written. e book is a fascinating account of the author's life. She describes her experiences and challenges as a Jewish person, yet she has expertly craed a book of stories that are relatable to everyone, regardless of their background. Each essay is authentic and engaging, and the reader will take something wonderful from each one.
