| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2026 | 17 The Safety Advisory Committee, Securitas, management, and the Master Board work together to make Sun Lakes as safe a community as possible. As I'm sure you understand, SAFETY is an ongoing challenge and we all respond to incidents as quickly as possible. Recently, several theft related incidents were reported within the community in the RV lot. Securitas has increased patrol of the RV lot and the Master Board has approved additional surveillance cameras to enhance security there. While these measures enhance security there, theft prevention remains a shared responsibility. Residents are encouraged to remove valuables from RVs, secure all doors and storage compartments, and utilize visible deterrents such as steering wheel or hitch locks. Also, regularly checking on stored vehicles and promptly reporting suspicious activity to Security remains essential in preventing incursions. In addition, there has been an increase in reports involving scam attempts, including phone calls requesting money or personal information, as well as individuals going door to door soliciting funds or offering services. Sun Lakes does have a no-solicitation policy, but there are reports of people soliciting residents after being legitimately called into the community to perform work elsewhere. Please be aware that legitimate companies will never pressure residents for immediate payment or personal information. Please stay informed, cautious, and vigilant to avoid any possible scams. Traffic safety is an ongoing concern here in Sun Lakes. We know there are speeders and stop sign runners out there. Unfortunately, a few make it difficult for those of us who follow the rules. If you observe traffic violators, please try to get their license plate number or vehicle identification and report it to myself or security as soon you can. Securitas will have a conversation with them and if there are repeat offenders they will be invited to a Safety Advisory Committee hearing. Please remember to: Keep your dog on a leash. Keep your garage doors closed. Obey traffic signs and drive defensively. If you see something, say something! ~ Michael Volz, (818) 310-1950, vmv1950@aol.com Safety Advisory Lifestyles Magazine is the resource most residents use to find out what's going on in our community. At 80 pages, it includes pictures from residents plus articles from the Master Board, Delegate Assembly, FirstService, CCL, the golf pro, and all the advisory committees. Clubs and groups send articles and photos about their activities to Sunlakesnews@yahoo.com by the sixth of each month. The Lifestyles Advisory Committee meets on the seventh of each month, unless otherwise specified, to review and edit the articles that are submitted for each month's issue of the magazine. We also publish want ads and for sale items from residents at no cost and hide a monthly joke for residents to find. Responses to our "Get the Joke" contest are put in a hat and a winner is randomly drawn, earning a gift card as a prize. We publish a special "Friends We Will Miss" section to keep friends and neighbors informed when a resident passes away. On page 2, we present a useful guide that includes the contact information for our clubhouses, Master Board members, administrative staff, advisory committee chairpersons, as well as when and where the committees meet, hours of Sun Lakes operation, and other valuable information. Photographs taken by residents of areas within Sun Lakes are used on the magazine cover. We also post pictures of residents on their vacations or of their beloved pets. If you're good at proofreading and are interested in joining us, please fill out a volunteer application form that you can get in the Main Clubhouse Lobby, and we'll put you on our waiting list. ~ Linda Vieira, lvieira@eltree.com Lifestyles Advisory March marks the arrival of the colorful spring season with blossoms and warmer days, St. Patrick's Day, Daylight Saving Time, and more.
