48 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2026 | Happy March, Sun Lakes! Does it feel like spring yet? Whether or not it feels spring-like, it's time to get serious about our gardens. According to the web, clear the debris, add compost, prune dormant trees and shrubs, and plant cool-season veggies (i.e. peas, lettuces, and spinach). However our Garden-of-Eat-Em guy, Pat Pennington said, given the warmer weather we've been having, planting for summer may be a better choice. To hear more from Pat, join us for our meeting this month, Wed., March 11; doors open at 9:30 am, meeting goes from 10 am to 12 noon. Our last meeting, our guest speaker Ron Lang, presented a wealth of information on the care of orchids. This month, our program will feature the Japanese art of Ikebona f lower arranging presented by one of our own, Linda Kalb-Myers. She has extensive international training and background in several methods of f lower arranging. She said that Ikebona is based on the simplicity of three f lowers which represent heaven, earth, and mankind. It's not just an arrangement, it's a philosophy. Also in March, as of this writing, we are planning to participate in the Spring Craft Fair, March 20 and 21. Look for us in the Main Clubhouse Bus Room. Looking a bit further forward, a save the date notice: Sat., May 30 we will be sponsoring the Garden Club's biannual Sun Lakes Garden Tour. All Sun Lakes residents are welcome to apply to show off their gardens, and 12 will be selected. Look for applications to show your garden in any of the three clubhouses by the first week of April. Those whose gardens are chosen will receive a $25 gift card to Cherry Valley Nursery. Guests are always welcome to attend one of our meetings which are on the second Wednesday of every month from 10 am to 12 noon in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom (unless otherwise announced).
