Please keep remembrances to 400 words and include one recent, high-resolution photo. Janice Steinberg Ellman was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on October 7, 1933. She married the love of her life, Alvin Ellman, in March 1958, and together they shared 67 years of marriage. They moved to Sun Lakes in 1994. Throughout her distinguished career in education, Janice was a devoted teacher who touched the lives of hundreds of students across many grades and disciplines. Her passion for learning and her care for her students left an indelible mark on everyone she taught. Janice and Alvin were the proud parents of three children — Cindi (Murray), Lisa, and David, who passed away in 2009. She was also the deeply cherished grandmother of five grandchildren, each of whom she celebrated with immense pride and boundless love. Janice enjoyed Jazzercise, Mahjong, tap dance, and performing in the Follies and at's Entertainment. She and Alvin started the Yiddish Culture Club. To her family, friends, and all who knew her, Janice was a source of warmth, laughter, energy, and light. The world feels a little dimmer without her radiant presence. Mary Charlene Fink, age 82, passed away peacefully on January 30 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Toledo, Ohio in 1943, Charlene was the daughter of Edgar and Teresa Chambers. She was proud of her midwestern roots, and it was in Toledo that she met the love of her life, Duane Fink, to whom she was married for 60 years. In 1965, Charlene and Duane moved to sunny, southern California to start a family and a lifelong residency. Charlene attended the University of Toledo, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Education. She devoted her professional and personal life to teaching and educating others, a role that reflected both her love of learning and her deep commitment to helping young, eager students achieve their potentials through access to quality education. It was her honor to help review and award scholarships to young, deserving women who did not have the resources to make their dreams come true. Charlene was a devoted Catholic, an avid football fan, an enthusiastic shopper, happy traveler, and enjoyed returning to her hometown to visit friends and family. She was also extremely passionate about genealogy. She spent countless hours researching and salvaging important historical documents to form the family trees of all her family members, for which they are forever grateful. She lived in Sun Lakes for 20 years. She was an active member of many clubs, such as Happy Cookers, Genealogy, Garden Club, Friendship Club, and TOPS. She was a member of the Lifestyles Advisory Committee for many years, serving several terms as Chairperson. Charlene made countless meaningful connections and found her creative outlet. She cherished her friendships, developing them at each stage of her life, with most of these lasting for the rest of her life. Charlene is survived by her loving husband Duane, daughters Karen McKinney and Colleen Masterson (Sean), son Todd Fink (Amy), six grandchildren (Madilyn Fink, Spencer Fink, Morgan McKinney, Shae McKinney, Ethan Davidson, and Finnegan Masterson), two sisters (Nancy Rank and Jeanne Guess (Mike), and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and her sister, Lois Chambers. She will be remembered for her heart-warming smile, dedication to education, advocacy for women, and her love for family, friends, and Elvis! Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the values she instilled in those who knew and loved her. There will be a mass at 11 am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha in Beaumont followed by a Celebration of Life in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom on March 18. Please feel free to wear Irish green.
