The AACC meets every third Tuesday at 6 pm in the Arts & Crafts Room. Join us March 9 at 4:30 pm in Oakmont Clubhouse Room A. Moderator: Michael Ryan, DFG, will moderate the discussion of Modal Jazz, a historical music ref lection, highlighting Miles Davis, Bill Evans, John Coltrane and Kind of Blue, the best-selling jazz album of all time! Let's enrich an hour of your day as we examine a moment in jazz history when the music didn't just evolve — it pivoted. In 1959, Miles Davis gathered a small group of exceptional musicians — Bill Evans, John Coltrane, as well as Cannonball Adderley, Paul Chambers, Jimmy Cobb — and together they recorded an album that quietly redefined what jazz could be. Kind of Blue became the most inf luential jazz album not because it was loud, virtuosic, or complex, but because it dared to be spacious. We will explore how the jazz world evolved to this level of music mastery as we also spend quality time looking into evolution of the jazz masters who created this masterpiece. The recording Kind of Blue shifted the focus from harmonic problem-solving to melodic imagination. This presentation will be interspaced with musical examples displaying the magic of Miles Davis, Bill Evans and John Coltrane.
