24 | LIFE IN SOLERA | MARCH 2026 | HIGH NOTES FROM KARAOKE RV GROUP I remember the rst time I heard about movie stars not always using their birth names in the movies they made, I was really surprised. One of the very rst stars I found had changed his real name for a stage name was Cary Grant. His real name is Archibald Leech. Of course that actually made sense because let's face it … Archibald Leech? Yet sometimes an odd-sounding name makes the artist even more famous as was the case for Engelbert Humperdinck who's real name is Arnold George Dorsey. Here is a list of some big stars with stage names: • Tony Curtis: Bernard Schwartz • Cary Grant: Archibald Leech • Conway Twitty: Harold Lloyd Jenkins • Chubby Checker: Ernest Evans • Connie Francis: Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero • Bobby Darin: Walden Robert Cassotto • Tony Bennett: Antonio Benito • Bruno Mars: Peter Hernandez • John Legend: John Rogers Stephens • Eminem: Marshall Mathers • Jamie Fox: Eric Bishop • Portia Di Rossi: Amanda Lee Rogers • Whoopie Goldberg: Caryn Johnson • Vin Diesel: Mark Vincent • Snoop Dog: Calvin Broadus Jr. • Faith Hill: Audrey Perry • Lady Gaga: Stefani Germanotta • Shania Twain: Eileen Edwards • Carmen Electra: Tara Patrick Join Marty Mangan in the Oakmont Clubhouse on Fri., March 20 starting with a potluck for all who contribute followed by karaoke singing at 6 pm. Let your voice be heard on our microphones this month here at Solera's Goodtimes Karaoke event. e Classic GMC Motorhome, 1973- 1978 General Motors Corporation (GMC) introduced this motorhome in 1973 as the first motorhome that doesn't drive like a truck. More than 13,000 GMC motorhomes were produced between 1973 and 1978. The GMC motorhome was produced in 23 foot and 26-foot lengths with various interior and paint options. 90 percent of the GMC motorhomes produced were the 26-foot models. Approximately 9,000 GMC motorhomes are still on the road today. The GMC motorhome was built for comfort, both on and off the road. With front wheel drive, a low roof line and a low center of gravity, the motorhome handles easily. The air suspension provides a smooth ride and the wide panoramic windows offered excellent visibility when traveling. Standard equipment included cruise control, air conditioning and an AM/ FM/eight-track sound system. The motorhome is powered by an Oldsmobile 455 cubic inch (Rocket V-8) gasoline engine matted to a Turbo Hydraulic 425 three-speed automatic transmission. In mid-1977, the engine was downsized to a 403 cubic inch engine matted with the same transmission. Two 25-gallon gas tanks supplied regular gasoline to the engine which averaged a respectable 9 to 11 miles per gallon. All GMC motorhomes were 96 inches wide and about 9 feet tall. Interior headroom was 76 inches. The galley of the motorhome is equipped with a six cubic foot propane refrigerator, propane gas range/oven and a double sink. Behind the driver's seat is a sliding couch that doubled as a secondary bed. A four- seat dinette is positioned behind the front passenger seat. The bathroom is a molded fiberglass wet bath module which includes a shower, mirrored sliding door medicine cabinet, sink and an Aqua Magic toilet. The rear bedroom features twin sofas that create a queen size bed. A forty-gallon freshwater tank supplied domestic water needs. The GMC motorhome was equipped with a combination 40-gallon grey/black water holding tank. A six-gallon propane powered water heater provided hot water for its owners. The motorhome used a dual-electrical system, 12-volt DC for driving and lights and 110-volt AC for appliances which was typically powered by a shore power 30-amp plug/cord (campground electrical hook- up). The coach battery was a single 12-volt lead acid battery. Many GMC motorhomes were equipped with 4,000- or 6,000-watt Onan generators located in the outside rear compartments. Current and past owners love the classic design. Some owners call the GMC motorhome the coolest motorhome ever designed. The GMC motorhome is truly a one-of-a- kind classic motorhome. ~ Ron Monroe, Solera RV Group Leader, (909) 732-6139, email ronoap@aol.com
