8 | OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2026 | After 12 productive years on the Landscape Committee, our beloved leader, Alma Sisco Smith, has decided to slow down from her volunteer work. OHCC residents haven't been the only recipients of her generous nature. Not one to rest on her laurels, Alma has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Oceanside public library since 2014 and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. With an education in Higher Education Administration, she wrote and received a grant for a mentorship program to empower young girls and women through the North County African American Women's Association. In recognition of this work, she has received a certificate of Recognition from Catherine Blakespear of the California State Legislature. In 2020, she received the Dr. Martin Luther King Civic Award from the City of Oceanside. By now, you must be thinking, "Someone of this caliber can't be married to a mere mortal." You are right, enter Bob "Smitty" Smith, recipient of a Purple Heart from the Navy for his Bravery in the Viet Nam war. Also, he is a former Master Board Director of OHCC, former President of the Portofino Village, and currently six-year Treasurer of the Veterans Club. Smitty was also active in the procurement of a grant for two Pickleball courts at their church, St. Michael's by-the-Sea. All this plus a great sense of humor, and, of course, a great wife. Alma and Smitty have three children, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. As our name implies, we are the guardians of the images that represent OHCC. For example, there is only one official OHCC logo and it is used only upon review by the Image and Marketing Committee and approval by the Board of Directors. The logo that you see above was designed by longtime Ocean Hills Country Club resident, Christy Cooper, to suggest the blue of the ocean and green of the hills surrounding the community. As specified in the Master Brand Identity Style Guide — Logo, Revised July 2024 — it contains three solid colors: blue, green and black and shades (10 percent) of the blue and green to suggest shadows. The word "logo" applies to the total content which cannot be separated or amended. Generally, the logo is applied to printed materials such as letterheads and business cards, online, and on signs where its colors and style can be accurately retained. As a rule, there is no need to put the logo on directional or safety signs. Beyond logos and signs, the Image and Marketing Committee works closely with colleagues on other Standing Committees such as Landscaping and Community Services to provide the Board of Directors with consistent recommendations. We are pleased to consult with Resident Realtors on code, enforcement of customer entry and appropriate signage. It takes vision and perseverance to complete each project IMC takes on. In a community with so much unique talent to draw upon, we will continue to provide needed counsel in areas of mutual interest and satisfaction.
