Don't be fooled! This April the Art League invites you to come to our meeting on Sun., April 12 at 2 pm in the South Clubhouse. Meet our members, learn what we do, and what we offer to beginners and accomplished artists alike. Share some refreshments, join in voting for our mini art show winners, and experience the art of Patti Schwebach as she demonstrates what you can experience in her classes on April 20, 27, and May 4. Cost is $30 members, $35 non-members. Shirley Anderson has all the details (951) 434-7930. The lucky winner of our January membership drive on-time payment prize was Judy Grant — congratulations! We welcome returning and new members anytime; the dues are still $20 per year. Please contact Helen Searcy for further details at (951) 845-8198. We had a nice showing of member work at our February meeting and the winners of the mini show were: Classic Art: 1st place - Pattie Rogers – vegetables done in pastels; 2nd place Lee Munday – flowers painted with watercolor; 3rd place – Frank Bonarigo – farm scene using acrylics. Miscellaneous Art – 1st place – Judy Grant – fused glass trivet; 2nd place – Betsy Voss – dog – paint by number; 3rd place – Nancy Troyer – dog – photography. Thank you to all who entered, you are all winners! Be sure to bring in your art to show this month; we are excited to see everyone's talents. We are looking into a members' field trip sometime during the "dark" month of June. It will be a drive yourself or carpool event. We will try to keep the location to within 20 miles of Banning. Be on the lookout for more information at a meeting soon or in this publication. If you would like to have an Art League entry in the Fourth of July parade, we need a chairperson and committee. If you're interested, please talk to Dave Henke at (818) 381-3831. "Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness. It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind. As the sun colors April flowers, so does art color life." - John Lubbock 30 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2026 | Art League Trompe-l'oeil (fool the eye) is an artistic term for the highly realistic, almost photographic, optical illusion of three- dimensional space and objects on a two- dimensional surface. It is most oen associated with painting and "tricks" the viewer into perceiving painted objects or spaces as real. Forced perspective is a related illusion in architecture, and Op art is a modern style mostly dealing with geometric patterns.
