Our March Cars & Coffee was welcomed by some great weather; the high winds that were expected did not occur. We had more than 18 beautiful cars and trucks join us. This month's automotive tip was shared by Greg Messick: "The Smart Car Battery Disconnect Switch." This is a kill switch with a remote control (pictured at right). It can prevent the car battery from running down due to long-term parking, line aging, or forgetting to turn off the lights. It helps maximize a car battery's storage capacity. This will not charge your battery. Ladies Day Cars & Coffee is Saturday, May 2 from 9 to 11 am. All ladies who bring their cars of any make, model, and year will receive a rose. There will be live music by The Last Train Out, along with cake, coffee, and other refreshments for everyone. If you have questions about this event, please contact my wife, Pam Morales, at (714) 345-5224. On Saturday, May 16, the Veterans Club is sponsoring an Armed Forces Day parade. Any car, any year, is welcome to participate. Please contact me or Len Tavernetti if you're interested. The parade starts at 10 am at the Windmill on Four Seasons Circle — just show up and get in line; no sign-up needed. Please join us for our next Cars & Coffee meeting on Saturday, April 4, at The Lodge parking lot. We have started a fun new contest. Each week we have a different challenge. When completed, the member moves a small car along a predetermined route across the U.S until in the 13th week, when they reach the East Coast. Then they win the prize … a free car wash. In February we had one member present us with a lesson on how to use resistance bands to build muscle and lose weight. Thank you, Kathy. We also spent time "Hacking our Happy Hormones." We talked about how to go to our happy place. According to some studies, happiness starts in your body where positive thinking from exercise, good eating, laughing, or having sex releases serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin, and endorphins. You can fool your body into thinking you are happy and smiling by putting a pencil, sideways into your mouth out to the sides and biting down. This simulates smiling and releases those hormones. Recalling how silly you look in a mirror makes you smile — even hours later as you smile again. You may find that a group like TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) can help you as well. We meet on Tuesday at 8:30 am in the Ballroom. For more information, call Andi Henderson (918) 497-6491. ~ Andi Henderson
