56 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2026
Quilting Enthusiasts
Our quilting ladies had a wonderful class learning how to make
"fabric bowls" thanks to one of our members, Salpy Chacon. It was
suggested that a second class is required so we can learn how to
"finish" our bowls by adding handles and finishing touches. These
bowls would make great Easter baskets for the grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, or a basket for other household uses, or as
gifts for loved ones.
Our next class is all about "crumb quilting." You may wonder
what crumb quilting is. It's similar to making a crazy quilt but with
smaller pieces. You keep adding and adding until you can "cut out"
a sizable usable square. This technique allows for creation of a place
mat or use it in a quilt. The beauty of crumb quilting is that you can
use your "scrap" or leftover fabric from other projects. We'll have a
class about the techniques to create your "fabric" and how to trim it.
This technique allows you to create great placemats, table runners,
lap-sized quilts, or even larger quilts. Once the crumb piecing is
done and the newly created fabric is cut to the proper dimensions,
you can make anything you want, any size. There are several
patterns that can be adapted for crumb quilt blocks. For those of
you who saw the 20th Anniversary Quilt created for the community,
the star points were made using the "crumb technique." Come join
us, and please RSVP via email at 4seasonsquilters@gmail.com, or
call Mary at (808) 430-7469. The class will be held on April 16 from
10 am to 4 pm in The Lodge Arts & Crafts Room 2. Please bring a
sewing machine in good working order. Fabric will be available for
selection. A supply list will be provided as soon as you sign up, and
it will be emailed to you upon registration.
One of our new members, Maryellen Barr, is teaching this "free
class." All are welcome to attend our meetings on the second
Thursday of each month in Arts & Crafts Room 2. You don't need
to be a quilter to join us. Don't forget that the third Thursday is our
"Sit-n-sew" in the Arts & Crafts Room 2, and you're welcome to join
us. You are all welcome!
Save the date, Sept. 13, for the Four Seasons Quilt Show featuring
vendors and beautiful quilts on display.
Peace through quilting. ~ Mary M. Moody-Cox, (808) 430-
