FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2026 65 4x4 Seasons e Covington Trail Exploring the Covington Trail up to Eureka Peak in February feels like you're slipping into a different world above Palm Springs. We aired down our tires at the mouth of the canyon, the breeze carrying with it the faint scent of creosote. Once rolling, the trail climbed steadily into the Little San Bernardino Mountain range, the city grid of Palm Springs shrinking behind us. On a clear day you can see all the way across the Coachella Valley, but on this cold, stormy morning, the clouds were racing low along the ridgelines and only revealed brief windows of the desert f loor below. The higher we climbed, the more the landscape shifted. Barrel cactus and ocotillo gave way to juniper and pinyon pine. Near the 5,500-foot summit of Eureka Peak, the air turned frigid and thin, and from the top, when the clouds brief ly parted, we caught a moody glimpse of the Coachella Valley and windmills below framed by dark clouds. Exploring this trail in winter added a layer of intensity. The sky threatened, and every turn of the trail demanded focus — but it also made the experience feel raw and elemental. It's a side of the desert most visitors never see … wild, cold, and breathtakingly alive. Come join us … Our meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm in the RCN Conference Room, and we usually schedule an outing for Thursday of the same week. ~ Scott D. Snyder, scottdonaldsnyder@gmail. com A great way to start your day is to come out and join our group for some fresh air, exercise and socialization. Shuff leboard is an easy game to learn and almost anyone can quickly become proficient. Our games usually last about an hour or so and we randomly select different teams each time we play. This keeps the competition challenging and the games more interesting. We have no losers, only non-winners. We have a wonderful group of residents who play regularly, but we are eager to welcome new players. If you are interested in joining a fun activity with friendly residents, please join us. We will introduce you to the game of shuff leboard in case you have never played before. If you have played before and just need a review, we can give you a quick refresher. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. Otherwise, I hope to see you on a Monday and/or Saturday morning at 9 am at the newer shuff leboard courts behind the swimming pool and next to the paddle tennis courts. ~ Marty Rotman, (310) 948- 1693, mrtmj@aol.com Shuffleboard L-R: Scott, eresa, Mel, DeeDee, and Walt Moody Skies - photo by Mel Moncrie e Covington Trail to Eureka Peak
