Our Board of Directors for 2026 began work in January. Some new, some returning - but all are eager to help the Swim & Wellness Club grow and prosper. Officers include Phil Topar - President; Sara Stewart - Vice President; Anita Simons - Secretary and Patti Waterman - Treasurer. The Board also includes five directors: Robin Bleeker, Mike Guillory, Robin Ryan, Lynn Topar and Dorothy Kraus. Welcome to our new Board members! Member Spotlight: New director Dorothy Kraus is in the spotlight this month. Dorothy grew up in the L.A. area. Her college career included two semesters as a student with "World Campus Afloat," a shipboard study abroad program. She has wonderful memories of traveling around the world, exploring the culture and politics of each new location. She earned her degree from the University of Colorado-Boulder. She later moved to Newport Beach as a single mom and began a career in systems development, followed by healthcare operations. She fell in love with her next-door neighbor, and she and Mike have been married for 43 years. Sadly, Dorothy lost her beloved daughter to cancer in 2023. Her family includes a wonderful stepson plus nieces and nephews. Dorothy and Mike have lived in OHCC for two years. She sought out the pool because of neck and back issues and soon met Board member Robin Ryan who gave her swim lessons. Dorothy loves the water and swims laps several days a week. She and Mike also love boating and are anxious to get their new boat on the water. She enjoys reading, hiking and any kind of travel. Thanks, Dorothy, for your offer to chair S & W club's food committee! Mark your calendars for our Summer Social which will happen on Wed., June 17 at 11 am on the Lanai. We're planning a fun summer lunch, plus a few surprises. This is a great opportunity to socialize with fellow pool lovers and wellness enthusiasts. It's not too soon to start thinking about our ever-popular Swim Clinic. On three Saturdays in July, the 11th, 18th, and 25th - teachers will be on hand to help residents gain confidence at any level of swimming. From fearful beginners to advanced lap swimmers, you can receive swim instruction from our experienced teachers. We'll begin at 9:30 am with a skills instruction time, followed by time to practice. Stay as long as you'd like. This opportunity is a fabulous benefit to being a Swim & Wellness Club member and is FREE to members. Not a member yet? It's easy to join. Just drop off a check for $12 at the Clubhouse desk. Be sure to include your address, phone number, and email address. ~ Written by Sara Stewart, VP Swim & Wellness Club 42 | OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2026 | A scene from our 2025 Swim Clinic New S & W Club Board member Dorothy Kraus
