| OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2026 |25 The Sewing Etc. Club is saddened to have to share the loss of a dear member and past president (2019-2022). Chris Sanderson continued to remain active in the club despite many health challenges. Her determination and smiling face will be missed throughout our community. February's meeting provided a nice change of pace. Mike Deibler, PT, showed the members functional fitness exercises to help with aches and pains while sewing and crafting, especially since we often sit for extended periods of time. It was fun and hopefully will help us be more comfortable while working on projects. The biggest take away was to move often, to keep the body healthy and prevent stiffness and pain. March's general meeting was a fun way for new and longtime members to get to know each other. They got to take advantage of duplicate items from the Club's extras stash. When the inventory committee went through the Club's cupboards and closets, they discovered lots of extra materials that were taking up needed storage space. They decided that members should be able to select items for their projects since these belong to members of the club. It was a win-win for all members, especially since so many make items for the special organizations the Club regularly supports. This month, we'll highlight some of those special organizations. Making items for these groups lets members continue to pursue favorite pastimes and make a difference in our community. We support Camp Pendleton with a number of projects including comfort quilts for children of deployed parents, cradle quilts and Christmas stockings for the OHCC Woodchucks annual Holiday Drive, and support for the Armed Forces YMCA and thrift shop. We get to help military families that keep us all safe. We also support Oceanside Women's Resource Center, and Project Linus. Project Linus provides small comfort blankets for children experiencing traumatic events like abuse, crime, fires, etc. Many of the community first responders carry these blankets in their vehicles to have available when needed. Our regular monthly meetings occur on the first Thursday of the month at 9:30 am in the Mykonos Room. Come a little early to enjoy social time and refreshments. It's always fun to share all the members' projects too. April's meeting will be the Spring Luncheon in the Hall on April 9 at 11 am. Remember to check out the new décor in the Sewing Room and sign up for classes. Submitted by Diana Homan Sewing Etc. Club Helping Hands loans out three and four-wheel walkers, transport and regular wheelchairs. They can also use icing/cool water circulating machines which are used post-surgery or post injury to reduce swelling. If residents have unneeded medical equipment listed above to donate, please reach out to Helping Hands. You can contact any of the Helping Hands volunteers. Wheelchairs, crutches, canes and misc. medical equipment are available to residents without cost. Volunteers are available to assist our residents with pick-up and delivery when there is an in-home need for medical equipment items.
