| OHCC LIVING | APRIL 2026 | 43 Walkers and Hikers Looking for a fun (and free) way to stay active, talk with your neighbors, and enjoy our beautiful weather in southern California? OHCC Walkers and Hikers Club is the perfect opportunity to do just that! The club welcomes residents of varying fitness levels who enjoy fresh air, good conversation and the beauty of nature. Unable to tolerate heights or have a fear of hills? Then join one of our walks either at the beach or at a park or neighborhood on a relatively f lat path on nearby trails. On the other hand, if you are looking for something more challenging, join us for an adventurous hike that offers elevation gain and more mileage. We sometimes venture out of San Diego County for scenic walks or hikes. No matter what your preference, there is a place for you in our group. Check out our calendar on the OHCC website and you will find both walks and hikes scheduled throughout the month. Each scheduled hike or walk provides a description of the outing, listing the duration, mileage, terrain, whether it is dog friendly, and if there is any elevation gain. The pace is comfortable, the atmosphere is friendly and the goal is simple – stay active while enjoying the company of fellow neighbors. We all know that walking and hiking offers improved health and increased energy. But just as important are the friendships that form along the trail. If you want to join us, but hesitate because you might not know anyone, click on the walk that interests you that is listed on the website, and it shows the people who have already signed up. Please see below what we have in store for April. April 2 – WALK. Diamond Valley Wildower Loop Trail. This walk is a little over two miles, but there is a 285 ft elevation gain, so it is rated as moderate. It is in Hemet, 90 minutes away, and supposed to have gorgeous f lowers. The group will be going out to lunch afterwards at J&M Family Restaurant in Hemet. April 10 – HIKE. Denk Mountain/Copper Creek. This is a somewhat challenging five-mile hike in San Marcos, with a 700 ft elevation gain, and once we reach the summit, a magnificent view of the ocean and all of Carlsbad. April 18 - WALK. San Elijo Lagoon. This is a two-mile walk, beginning at the Nature Center in Cardiff. This is considered an EASY walk. Dogs are allowed. Afterwards, the walkers will eat at The HabitBurger Grill in Carlsbad. April 23 - WALK. Encinitas Ranch Trail (not the Golf Course Trail). It is considered an EASY 2.1-mile walk. Dogs are allowed. Afterwards the walkers will be having lunch at Beach Plum Kitchen in Carlsbad. So, lace up your walking shoes and we will see you on the trail!
