62 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MAY 2026 4x4 Seasons Death Valley Adventure In April, our 4x4 group set out on our long-anticipated three-day Death Valley adventure, experiencing both its rugged terrain and surprisingly tolerable springtime temperatures along the way. Our home base was Beatty, Nevada, and on the first day we explored the ghost town of Rhyolite before heading to the dramatic Ubehebe Crater and the Racetrack Playa, where the stones mysteriously move across the surface. From there we tackled the narrow, rocky switchbacks of Lippencott Pass climbing to an elevation of 6,124 feet as the landscape shifted from dust and sand to lush greenery and f lowing springs. It was dusk when we made our final descent into Panamint Valley. Day two brought us to the lowest point in North America at Badwater Basin, sitting at 282 feet below sea level, followed by a drive through the vibrant colors of Artist's Palette, a hike to Natural Bridge, and a visit to the historic Wonder Mine. On the final day, our group drove the bumpy trail up to Chloride City Mine. The drive offered sweeping views of the valleys and vast desert below. We wrapped up the journey with a trek home through the Mojave Preserve, ref lecting on the diverse terrain, elevation extremes, and the perfect weather that made the trip unforgettable. If you are interested in joining us on our adventures, our meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm in the RCN Conference Room and we typically schedule an outing for Thursday of the same week. We look forward to seeing you there. ~ Scott D. Shuff leboard is an easy game to learn and almost anyone can quickly become proficient. Our games usually last about an hour or so and we randomly select different teams each time that we play. This keeps the competition challenging and the games more interesting. We have no losers, only non-winners. We have a wonderful group of residents who play regularly but we are eager to welcome new players. If you are interested in joining a fun activity with friendly residents, please join us. We will introduce you to the game of shuff leboard in case you have never played before. If you have played before and just need a review, we can give you a quick refresher. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. Otherwise, I hope to see you at the newer shuff leboard courts behind the swimming pool and next to the paddle tennis courts on a Monday and/or Saturday at 9 am. ~ Marty Rotman, (310) 948-1693, mrtmj@ aol.com Shuffleboard
