32 | LIFE IN SOLERA | MAY 2026 | RV GROUP Getting Your RV Ready for Summer Summer is just around the corner. It's time to take your rig out of storage and get it ready for some summer traveling and fun. Here's a few tips to help the RV owner get ready for that next road trip to Happyville, USA. 1. Exterior Checks. Check seals around windows, doors and compartments. Inspect seams along the roof edges. Look for delamination, missing bolts/screws and clear signs of water damage. Check the tires for proper inf lation pressure, uneven wear and cracking on the inside/outside tires. If the tires are six years old or older, replace the tires. 2. Interior Checks. Open and inspect all drawers, cabinets and storage areas. Check for proper function. Check the air conditioner and roof vent operation. Check all appliances including the water heater. 3. Regular Engine and Chassis Maintenance. Change the engine oil on your rig and change the generator oil. Check the transmission and brake f luids. Flush the radiator and refill the radiator reservoir. Refill the windshield wiper reservoir with fresh cleaner. 4. Hitch Inspection. If you tow a trailer/fifth wheel RV or a tow vehicle such as a small car or truck, check the hitch for rust and the condition of the hitch cables. Check the electrical connections on the towing vehicles. 5. Fresh Water Tanks and Black Water/Grey Water Tanks. Sanitize the RV's fresh water tank with a bleach solution. The most common bleach ratio for sanitizing a fresh water tank is to use ΒΌ cup of unscented household bleach for every 15 gallons of fresh water tank capacity. Let the solution set for at least four hours or overnight if possible. Drain and rinse the freshwater water system with fresh water and run all faucets until the bleach smell is gone. Check the grey and black water handles and caps for proper sealing. Add a good black water treatment to the toilet. Replace the sewer hose with a new one. 6. Clean the Outside of the RV. Use a qualified RV washing vendor to get that shine and sparkle your rig deserves. If washing your rig by yourself, use a good wash and wax combo cleaner. Work in sections and apply wax as needed. Summer is almost here and you are now ready to hit the road in your well prepared and shiny RV. Enjoy! ~ Ron Monroe, Solera RV Group Leader, (909) 732-6139, email ronoap@aol.com
