20 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JUNE 2026 | Summer is almost here and with it comes the HEAT! With regard to our various climate zones, adequately named and numbered within California, I have always said, "There is 'Full Sun' and then there is 'Hemet Sun'." We are not the coast, nor are we even similar to climate conditions only a few miles away. Summers here are hot and dry which explains why that beautiful new plant you fell in love with at a San Diego nursery suffers, and withers away, only days after you lovingly planted it. Just like us, f lowers, plants, trees, and shrubs are living, breathing specimens requiring a healthy environment in which to grow, but especially to thrive. As we would care for ourselves under extreme conditions, so do our plants deserve that same attention to detail. As you're enjoying your gardens this summer, throw in a bit of extra knowledge and insight as to what is indigenous to our zone 9B. Your yard will reward you by bursting forth in color, robust growth, edible veggies and herbs, bringing you pleasure and a sense of accomplishment. As we continue to cultivate our gardens at home, Late Bloomers continues to sow together the vision of opening a community garden in Four Seasons. Intended to be a beautiful place to come and sit, relax and share knowledge about nature, as a team, we will be growing demonstration gardens, healthy food for nourishment and plants to bring beauty to our homes. A fun place to gather under the shade of freshly planted fruit trees, this garden will be where people who love to garden can work side by side, learning, visiting and cultivating. In the mutual effort of bringing this vision to reality, we ask for your input. All residents who are interested in participating in this Community Garden, please contact Jonie Kipling at fscommunitygarden1@gmail.com. Updates will continue to post here as tasks are being completed. All Four Seasons residents are welcome to join us for meetings and excursions. Our June meeting will be on Mon., June 8 at 1 pm in the Arts & Crafts Room.
