22 | OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2026 | After wrapping up our successful Spring Arts and Crafts Fair, the Papercrafting members engaged in projects with their respective crafting groups. TOTEs classes on Fridays, 9 to 11 am — introduced Journal making with Rhonda Anchales and Vicki Greene at the helm. To date the class has created colored background journal pages as the basis for their journal creations and paper pockets which are creative holders for lots of writing papers, notes and embellishments. To create the colorful pages essential to pulling together a journal, members used spray bottles of coffee, teas and food colors. Members used two tables each to spray and dry their pages in our outdoor Lanai area. The liquids are sprayed through stencils or directly onto special presentation paper for a vintage, colorful- looking background look. These pages are the building blocks of a journal. There are many types of journals that paper crafters create including junk journals, art journal, spiritual journals and memory journals to name a few. The OHCC PC Club is focusing on what Rhonda refers to as wonder journals — because you always wonder what is on the next page of your journal. The Cricut electronic cutting machine is also used in various member projects. Led by Karin Barnes, various sentiments like Feel Better Soon, Happy Birthday, Thinking of you and With Deepest Sympathy are examples (shown above) of those designed and cut to be used in Cardmaking projects. The opportunity to build an inventory of sentiments is beneficial to any Cardmaker so these elements are ready for any card at any time a crafter may need to create for someone who needs it. Another colorful and creative papercrafting technique, called Brushos, was offered to members in TOTEs and to Group 3 in April. Brushos are intense watercolor crystals that come alive when sprayed with water. They can be used as backgrounds for any cardmaking design and add a display of distinctly rich color to any card. The Papercrafting Club continues to be innovative in introducing and reintroducing techniques of interest to new members and as a refresher to more experienced members. All shared techniques are critical tools in the enhancement of Cardmaking skills. Curiosity about those who came before and formed us is important. The group provides tools to do your research and help in getting started. For those with experience, we can offer suggestions to break through the brick walls of past generations. Meeting with others researching in the same geographical areas is a great help. We have a few Apple computers and PCs in the computer room. It is helpful if you want to bring your own laptop. We will meet for Help Sessions on Fri., June 12, and Sat., June 27, at 10 am. Newcomers are welcome. We are happy to offer the World Explorer version of Ancestry.com free of charge in the computer room. This program would cost an individual over $100 a month. We also offer the Family Tree Maker on several of the computers in the lab. A family tree can be started and compiled with either or both of these programs with many hints to assist in your research.
