| OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2026 | 39 National Mah Jongg Day was celebrated in style at OHCC. 97 Members of the club participated in a wonderful party. Hopefully everyone was reminded of wonderful birthday parties from our childhood. We played Heads or Tails Mah Jongg style, and Deborah Brooks won the first prize of the afternoon. Pizza, salad, cupcakes and ice cream were enjoyed by all who attended. Many games of Mah Jongg were played. Prizes for pairs and single hands were available, but nobody won in that category. We are now busy planning for our annual Full Day Tournament on Sat., Aug. 8, in the Hall at the Clubhouse. For the first time we will have two divisions of play, novice and experienced. Sign-ups open on June 12. At the April event membership voted for the next POP UP to be Dips and Chips. It will be a free event for all members of the club and will be the hybrid format for play style. Date has not been set yet so stay tuned. It will take place on a Monday afternoon. For the question of the month - the East Coast tradition is that East deals all players the tiles to start the game. In California, East takes the first two stacks and each player takes their own tiles. For this month, if a hand is worth 25 points and player A throws the tile that player B needs for Mah Jongg and its a jokerless hand, how much does Player A owe player B? How much do players C and D owe the winner? Remember the club hosts four weekly drop-ins each week, email us if you want to be added to any of the invitation lists. We hope to see you playing soon. The four club owned cards can be signed out to members for use at the Clubhouse, they are at the front desk in the Mah Jongg folder.
