As we move into the summer months, aerobics is a great way to stay in shape for all of those wonderful activities. As California residents, we have the opportunity for outdoor activities all year long. And aerobics provides the opportunity to continue to improve our strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and overall body conditioning in order to enjoy those outdoor activities. This is a low impact class; there is NO floor work but lots of fun music. Classes are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in Abravanel Hall from 10 to 11 am. Based on your schedule, you attend the number of classes that feel right for you. You can attend two classes before joining the Aerobics Club to see if it is the fun exercise, you are looking for. The cost is $5 per class paid directly to Christine Alesiani, our instructor. The annual dues for 2026 Aerobic Club are $ 10. Note: There is no class on the second Wednesday of each month when the Garden Club holds its meeting. Written by Kathy Palys Member Spotlight: Meet new club Board member Lynn Topar. Lynn, a true California girl, grew up in West L.A. and has never lived in another state. Pools and swimming have been a huge part of her life ever since her parents enrolled her in swimming lessons as a baby. She was a Kinesiology major in college and has been a swim instructor since 1973! She taught swimming at several city pools and YMCAs in L.A., as well as other locations in CA. She was also a water aerobics instructor, taught Mommy and Me classes and was a city lifeguard for Recreation Departments in several cities plus YMCAs. She even worked as a lifeguard at private parties. Do you see why the Swim & Wellness Club asked her to head up our Summer Swim Clinic as well as teaching our private swimming lessons? Lynn and husband Phil moved to OHCC in 2023. Lynn had visited here many times over the years to see her cousins Robin and Randi Ryan. So, when it was time to give up their L.A. house, our 84-degree pool called! Lynn and Phil have a "yours, mine and ours" family, with seven children between them, plus 10 grandkids. It's no surprise that Lynn taught all of her kids plus six of the grandkids to swim. In addition to swimming, Lynn and Phil enjoy gardening, reading and just being together. Summer brings warm days and lazy afternoons. It also brings visiting families with kids who love our pool. It may surprise some to hear that guests must follow the rules. These are posted on the A-frame signs as well as on our bulletin board (mounted on the clubhouse side of the pool area). The bottom line is to be just respectful of other pool users. Please don't allow children to bother residents who are trying to swim, water walk or just enjoy the warm water. Wristbands are required for all guests from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Get them at the Clubhouse desk. Remember that kids need to be at least 5 years old to be in the pool or the pool area. We hope you have Wednesday, June 17, marked on your calendar for our Summer Lunch Social. We'll gather on the Lanai at 11:00 am to share lunch and socialize with fellow swimmers and wellness enthusiasts. Watch your email for information on how to sign up. Boomer Connection Potluck The Boomer Connection meets for happy hour at 5 pm on the first Friday of every month from April through October (weather permitting). We are an informal group that gathers on the Palm Court to socialize and listen to music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. In the past, every household brought a dish to share potluck style. If you are comfortable with this, please bring your salad, entree, casserole, hot dish, dessert, etc. along with a serving utensil for the buffet table. If you do not wish to share with the community, please bring your own meal. Everything else is "bring your own," i.e. beverages, dishes, utensils, cups, glasses, napkins. Outdoor games are welcome!
