12 SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | JUNE 2026 By Tina Pauro – Emergency Preparedness Advisory Committee (EPAC) As we head into the warmer months, wildfire season is right around the corner. While we can't control the weather, we can take simple steps now to help protect our homes, families, and community. Start at Home: A great place to begin is by creating a safe space around your home. Clearing away dry grass, leaves, and debris within 30 feet can make a big difference. Trimming trees and keeping branches away from roofs help reduce fire risk. It's a small effort that can have a big impact. Simple Home Checks: Take a few minutes to check your home. Clean out gutters, remove anything flammable near walls, and make sure vents are covered with mesh to keep embers out. If you're planning upgrades, consider fire-resistant materials - they add an extra layer of protection. Make a Plan (and Practice It!): Do you and your household know what to do if you need to leave quickly? Plan at least two evacuation routes and choose a meeting spot. Practicing your plan now can help everyone stay calm if the time comes. Quick Tips: What to Pack Have a "Go Bag" ready so you can leave at a moment's notice. Consider including: • Water and non-perishable snacks • Medications and basic first aid supplies • Important documents (ID, insurance, copies of records) • Flashlights, batteries, and phone chargers • Extra clothes and sturdy shoes • Pet supplies, if needed Keep your bag in an easy-to-grab location and update it regularly. Stay Connected: Be sure you're signed up for local emergency alerts so you can get updates quickly. During high- risk days, monitor weather conditions and follow guidance from local officials. Weather apps and fire-tracking apps like "Watch Duty" can provide helpful, real- time information. We're in is Together: Wildfire preparedness isn't just an individual effort — it's a community one. Check in on neighbors, especially those who may need extra help. Sharing tips and staying informed helps keep everyone safer. Taking a little time now to prepare can make all the difference later. Let's work together to keep our community safe this wildfire season.
