COME "FRESS" AT THE YCC FIESTA
FRESS: The act of eating enthusiastically, which is a crucial
element of any Yiddish party. On Wed., July 8 at 6 pm in the South
Clubhouse, the Yiddish Culture Club is proud to offer a full taco
dinner fiesta catered by Taco Real.
Beef and chicken tacos will be served with all the trimmings
including guacamole, chips, rice, and beans along with margaritas.
Bring your appetite and your friends!
Cost is only $15 for members and $20 for guests. Checks payable
to the YCC can be dropped off at the home of Sylvia Berbiar at 5104
Rio Bravo by Fri., July 3.
Our featured speaker for this event is Laura Gold, President of
the LA Jewish Genealogy Society. She will be discussing "Jewish
Immigration and the Ellis Island Name Change Myth: Genealogy
Techniques to Explain Name Changes."
The belief that Jewish names were changed during processing
at Ellis Island is so strong that it takes clear, archival evidence to
convince people otherwise.
