| LIFE IN SOLERA | JULY 2026 | 9 Welcome to Firewise News and Tips. This is a new monthly column that meets the Firewise USA community educational requirement. On May 20, the Solera Homeowners Association was recognized and approved as a Firewise USA program participant. Firewise certificates for Solera homeowners are available in the Mail Room and clubhouse office. I can also send a resident a Firewise certificate by email. Firewise recognition signage will be placed in the Clubhouse and posted near the community entrance gates. Please update your homeowner's insurance policy and let your insurance carrier know that the Solera HOA is now a recognized Firewise community. Some insurance carriers are offering homeowners insurance discounts for participating in the Firewise program. In the coming months I will discuss evacuation and emergency preparedness as well as other tips to make your home more wildfire resilient. So here is your first Firewise tip … Trim Your Trees To reduce ember ignitions and fire spread, trim tree branches that overhang your roof, porch, grass areas and decking. A good rule of thumb is to prune tree branches 6 to 10 feet from the ground. Regular pruning also ensures healthy trees that are less prone to catching fire. Embers are the major reason that roofs ignite during a wildfire event. Wind- blown fire embers can travel one mile or more. Fuel reduction around the home helps to create a defensible space from wind-blown embers. Defensible space includes regular lawn maintenance, watering plants and trees, clearing pine needles, leaves and other debris from your roof and gutters. This helps to prevent embers from igniting your home. Firewise brochures and certificates are in the Mail Room. Other handout material will be placed in the Mail Room. Please sign up for Eblast alerts as this is another way to receive important Firewise news.
