18 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | JULY 2026 | Happy 250th Birthday America! Wow! 250 Years! By some standards, that's OLD yet we are relatively young when compared with countries proudly boasting fortified cities centuries old. Young or old, suffice to say that not one of us was here to personally witness the celebration of our Independence in July 1776. But what a victorious moment of liberating freedom, and relief that must have felt like for those members of the Continental Congress present for their vote. It was actually on Tuesday, July 2, 1776, a cloudy, rainy day in Philadelphia, when "the Continental Congress declared the United Colonies Free and Independent States." John Adams, the catalyst behind our country's vision becoming the realities of freedom we enjoy today wrote the following in a private letter to his wife, Abigail. "The second day of July 1776 will be the most memorable epocha in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the greatest anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the Day of Deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illustrations from one end of this continent to the other from this time forward forever more." And that is exactly what we are sharing with you through these photos on this momentous occasion of celebrating 250 years of Independence. Pictures can be worth far more than 1,000 words when passions and friendships come together. We are literally wrapped up, and around one another, in all that we are grateful for. Sewing with friends liberates our creative independence in those unexpected ways only a blessing can bestow.
