On July 10, the Opera Club takes a break from operas based on classic literature and returns to the heart of the traditional repertoire with a presentation of Mozart's Don Giovanni. All of Mozart's operas are masterpieces, but among Mozart opera fans Don Giovanni is considered his greatest work. You may only know of this opera through the imagery of an ominous man wearing a tricorn hat and dark cloak. e story is based on a 1630 Spanish play from Tirso de Molina, "El Burlador de Sevilla (o el convidado de piedra)" – (e Trickster of Seville or the stone guest). is is the story of the infamous seducer, Don Juan, focusing on his last attempted conquests which lead to his death and condemnation to the eternal res of Hell. Our presentation is a 1988 production from La Scala under the baton of Ricardo Muti and features American bass omas Allen as Giovanni and Slovenian basso profundo Sergej Koptchak as the commendatore. We will also present an opera-related art lm on July 17, Milos Forman's Amadeus, the 2001 director's cut. Due to its extra length, we will start early at 5:30 pm. is is universally considered the best lm ever (eight Academy Awards!) on a classical music composer. Only the documentaries on Freddy Mercury and Queen come close. I would like to congratulate the brave residents who attended our two-month long opera and dance interpretations of Virgil's Aeneid with Dido and Aeneas and Les Troyens. Les Troyens presented the greater challenge due to its epic scale and length. At four-and-a-half hours, it is one of the longest operas in the canon. e few souls who attended join a relatively small world-wide group of opera fans who have ever seen this great work. In July, we will return to literature, German literature, with an opera based on the rst ever viral novel from the rst ever pop culture superstar, Johann Wolfgang Goethe. See you at the opera! ~ Harvey Toyama, admin@fsbopera.org, (951) 524-3765 50 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2026 Opera Club omas Allen and Susanne Mentzer You and I have chosen to live in the beautiful San Gorgonio Pass. Welcome! How much do you know about the history of this area? On Thursday, July 9, our new group of Lifelong Learners will meet at 6:30 pm in the RCN. All of you are welcome to find out more about where you now live. Laurie McLaughlin, a Board member of the San Gorgonio Pass Historical Society, will present an outline of the history of Beaumont and Banning. She will share pictures, facts and great stories about this area. Did you know that Banning was the largest and most active city in the Pass? Beaumont was well known as the city of fine dining restaurants, motels, and gas stations. Cherries were a main crop of Beaumont, and the Cherry Festival just celebrated 106 years. There will be a question/ answer session with David Kelts, an enthusiastic Beaumont native, and current Four Seasons resident and water volleyball player. ~ David Kelts, dkeltsj@aol.com Lifelong Learners Beaumont 1890 Banning 1947, Ramsey St. Famous hotel, 1890, at 6th St. and Beaumont Ave.!
