| OHCC LIVING | JULY 2026 | 19 As part of our new series highlighting the amazing people who help make Ocean Hills such a special community, I had the opportunity to sit down with one of the friendly faces many of you see every day at the Recreation front desk — Kim Kennedy. Kim has been part of the Ocean Hills team for the past eight months and says one of the things she enjoys most about her job is interacting with residents. "I love talking with people, meeting new residents, and hearing their stories," Kim shared. When asked what she likes most about Ocean Hills, Kim didn't hesitate. She enjoys taking walks throughout the community and appreciates the beautiful, vibrant landscaping. She also spoke highly of her fellow staff members. "We have a hardworking team, and I really appreciate my coworkers," she said. Residents may not realize just how much goes on behind the scenes at the front desk. According to Kim, the job involves a lot of multitasking to help keep everything running smoothly while providing excellent customer service to residents and guests. When she's not at work, Kim enjoys practicing yoga and spending time outdoors. If she could instantly become an expert at one thing, it would be sign language. "I think it's an amazing form of communication," she said. Kim's favorite travel destination is Banff, Canada, where she loves the breathtaking scenery, crystal-clear lakes, and peaceful surroundings. In fact, another Canadian destination — Vancouver — is still high on her bucket list. When it comes to entertainment, Kim enjoys watching the television series Landman. Her favorite musical artist is Colbie Caillat, and if you invite her to dinner, there's a good chance she'll choose Italian food. Her favorite local restaurant is Nick's in Carlsbad. Halloween tops her list of favorite holidays because she loves the colors, decorations, and festive atmosphere. She's also a tea drinker, prefers the mountains over the beach, considers herself an early bird, and is definitely a dog person. As for snacks? Kim wisely refuses to choose between sweet and salty — she enjoys both. One of Kim's favorite OHCC events is the large concert performances, especially the recent ABBA tribute show. She also encourages residents to give yoga a try if they're looking for a new activity. Some of Kim's favorite memories at Ocean Hills involve the kindness and generosity of residents. One particularly meaningful gesture came from a resident who returned from a trip and brought her a small hummingbird figurine. "It was such a thoughtful surprise," Kim recalled. If Kim could add one new event to the community calendar, she would bring back a classic Sock Hop complete with music, dancing, and plenty of fun. Before joining Ocean Hills, Kim's very first job was working at Lamppost Pizza in Oceanside. Today, she says the people who have had the greatest inf luence on her life are her sons. Kim is a second generation Oceanside native, which is not easy to find! This is where she lives with her wife Genopher. They have two adult sons who are 28 and 24 and they also live in the area. Kim's mom and dad live just a few minutes away and she feels very blessed to be surrounded by family. And if she could share a meal with anyone from history, her choice would be Marilyn Monroe. To close our conversation, I asked Kim if she had one piece of advice for Ocean Hills residents. Her response was simple, but powerful: "Enjoy each new day, for better or worse, because it's a new opportunity." Thank you, Kim, for everything you do for the Ocean Hills community. We are grateful to have you as part of our Recreation team. Saf Spoligh Meet Kim Kennedy
