| OHCC LIVING | JULY 2026 | 37 Golf Club Special thanks to contributors Marilyn Vetlesen, Helen Sloan, Cindy Pederson (daughter) and Mike Guillory. Summer is in full swing at OHCC. This month we are spotlighting Touring Amateurs including its history and its leadership. This Spring we lost both Barbara and Dave Demarest, 30 years living in our village and years of service to the Golf Club including being one of the first directors to the club. They were always together working as a team and Dave was a bit of a jokester at meetings. Since the earliest days of the Ocean Hills Country Club, its golfing residents have enjoyed the golfing facilities right here "at home" but for many there was a desire to periodically play at other courses in the area. The Ocean Hills Touring Amateurs group was established for that purpose. Doris Reid ran the Touring Amateurs for 20 years. The Demarests took over from Doris and ran the tournaments for 13 years. Kathy Hunt then took over for five years. Mike and Annette Guillory have been running these tournaments since 2023. The golf club is thankful to the Demarests and all those who have supported TA since 1985! After 40+ years we may end this tradition if volunteers don't emerge. Hole in One news: Paula Burdy (our first lady Fliger) and golfer Mark Deutman both on #7. Guys and Dolls had a special Father's Day tournament on June 20, complete with a "Daddy Do-over" known as a free Mulligan and TA had their tournament at Oceanside Muni on June 15, results are on Unknown Golf Link on our OHGC.net website. Our Summer Golf party was a huge success, sold out and run by Terry Chamberlin and a host of helpers including some amazing door prizes, free golf, gear and ball retrievers (okay that was a joke, no one can retrieve a ball in our new lake so choose wisely!) Our next general meeting is July 16, at 4 pm AB Hall. Pizza and drinks served. Reach out to Mike Guillory when you are ready to volunteer, WE need YOU! Written by Teresa Deutman Dave & Barbara on right side- unknown couple on the le Barbara & David Demarest. 80 Dolls played on our Mother's Day Guys & Dolls complete with homemade cookies from Terry Chamberlin and a mixer in the Lanai hosted by Patti Smith and her team of volunteers. If you are looking for a way to reduce stress and anxiety, and a way to increase flexibility and balance, then Tai Chi exercise may be just what the doctor ordered. Originally, Tai Chi was developed for self-defense, but has evolved into a graceful form of exercise. Some describe it as meditation in motion because it promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Tai Chi is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. Each posture flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion. Tai Chi is low impact and puts minimal stress on muscles and joints, making it generally safe for all ages and fitness levels. It is especially suitable for older adults who otherwise may not exercise. The benefits of Tai Chi may include decreased stress, improved mood, increased energy, improved flexibility, balance, and agility, and improved muscle strength. OHCC offers a free Tai Chi class each Tuesday and Thursday, 9 to 10 am, in the Abravenal Hall. Each class is led by a video presentation that lasts about 45 minutes.
