| OHCC LIVING | JULY 2026 | 39 The club is gearing up for the Annual tournament. The past chair- people and committee stepped down and lucky for our club Patti Lightholder and Mary Blackman stepped up to co-chair this annual event. August 8 is the date - it's a full day event and for the first time will host a smaller novice group (all day but only etight games) in addition to the regular seasoned players 16 game format. We are looking forward to another sold out event for the club. Everywhere I look I see more and more pictures of people playing this fun game. The new set designs are amazing as well. What is your favorite set to play with? I was lucky to be given two older sets by my mother who no longer plays. I enjoy vintage sets, but my favorite is my New York State of Mind Tiles by Mahj & Co - their company's motto is Tiles with a Twist! The tiles are the ones in the top picture. One idea for a pop-up would be to bring your favorite set and we could have them on display. Let the club know if you like that idea. Our pop-up list is growing and I still have enough, what year is it? Card sets to have that as an event. On Oct. 5, we are planning the Chips and Dips pop-up BYOE (except food and beverages)! On another note, Teresa Randolph has volunteered to chair the nomination committee for the club. Elections will be at the fourth quarter event. More in next month's article - but feel free to reach out if you are interested in joining our Board. Answer to last month's question which was, "If a hand is worth 25 points and player A throws the tile that player B needs for Mah Jongg and it's a jokerless hand, how much does Player A owe player B? How much do players C and D owe the winner?" Player A owes $1 and Players C and D each owe Player B 50 cents. This month's question: Can a player call for a tile and use a joker from an exchange (same turn) to top rack the exposure they called the tile for? From the Mahj Lounge: "The card gets easier the more you actually play." Mahj On! Jacqueline Ettinger, Club President Mahjongg Club
