| LIFE IN SOLERA | AUGUST 2026 | 27 Sunshine Club's Member of the Month Meet Kathy Marchi our member of the month! Kathy and her husband Peter have enjoyed living in Solera for seven years. In the fall of 2021, Kathy joined the Sunshine Club and became Vice President in 2023. Over these ve years, Kathy has become the club's Christmas Angel. Her rst year she purchased and helped organize a club meeting to assemble the stockings for the children at Childhelp, a home for abused children in Beaumont. In later years, the Christmas Stockings were purchased, assembled, and delivered to Ronald McDonald House, one of the club's favorite charities. Over these years Kathy was always a big fan of Jessie Donardt and assisted with handing out Christmas cards for residents to sign so that they could be sent to our soldiers serving overseas. Again, our Christmas Angel at work! One of Kathy's biggest contributions to our community has been in volunteering for Winter Wish, made possible by the Soroptimist International of Beaumont with the support of the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce. For the last four years, Kathy would start her activities in early November by assisting in making calls to families nominated by local teachers to collect information such as the number of children in the family, and their needs such as jackets, sweats, etc. She would then gather sizes, favorite colors, toy wishes, etc. From here, the Winter Wish tags with all that information are created and passed out to various organizations within Solera. As the gis come in, they are reinforced with packing tape, packed into cartons, and then placed into shipping containers. As the day for distribution approaches, postcards are sent to the families telling them the date, time, and place to pick up. Kathy has assisted in all phases of this wonderful operation! As I said, Kathy is a Christmas Angel, and we are so proud to have her in the Sunshine Club! Do you know your neighbors? Do they have your phone number? Does someone you know in Solera have a key to your home in case of an emergency? e Sunshine Club would like to encourage you to reach out and get to know those around you … maybe two on each side and across the street! First, this allows us to keep an eye on each other. Haven't seen your neighbor in a while? Call or knock on their door. Second, if there is an emergency you can easily give them a call to check on them or again, knock on their door. And nally, if you see a neighbor in need of a warm blanket, slippers, or they are running short on food, please reach out to the Sunshine Club with all the information and we will see if we can help. Here in Solera, we need to watch out for each other! Are you feeling lonely or lost? Are you struggling with health issues or grief and just need someone to listen?
