| OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2026 | 43 Walkers and Hikers The OHCC Walkers & Hikers club celebrated summer with a delicious lunch at the Lanai on June 28. We had a slide show playing throughout the event of happy hikers and walkers on the trails or enjoying lunch at a restaurant afterwards. A good time was had by all as we discussed what we have in store for our upcoming outings. We informed attendees at the luncheon that we invite all members and non-members to let us know if you would like to lead a hike or even suggest a hike. On July 4th, before the OHCC golf cart parade and before the OHCC Independence Day barbecue, 10 hikers and walkers continued our holiday tradition of starting the holiday with a morning walk at nearby Buena Vista Park. For those that are unfamiliar with Buena Vista Park, it is about a mile from our back gate, off Shadowridge. It is a relatively easy 2.5-mile walk, in soft dirt, with beautiful foliage and magnificent rock formations. In the last year, we have walked this easy trail on the morning of Thanksgiving, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, and the most recent on July 4th. We hope you will join us on the morning of Labor Day, for our next holiday walk. As of this writing, a walk around Oceanside Pier was scheduled for July 11 and a hike at Calavera and the Volcano was scheduled for July 16. We hope to see you on a trail in the very near future. Written by Marla Reiter Golf Club Summer is in full swing at OHCC. This month we are spotlighting how our club is inclusive of members over five decades wide. We have golfers from mid-50s, 60s, 70s 80s and quite a few over 90! In our Guys and Dolls tournament in June our last tee time and last-minute entry was just that — a team with over 350 years of life experience who met up on first tee, not knowing each other and winning fifth place. As I hear it, they are now friends and will continue to play in tournaments; that is what OHCC is about and a testament to what an active social environment can do for longevity. Perhaps next month we'll find some Newbies at the other spectrum who have just landed. The only tournament we could play was G&D and we got paired with loads of great players from all ages and have huge gratitude, especially to Marilyn and Tom Vetlesen for welcoming us. 14 years later, I feel the same way about putting teams together that may thrive and continue the legacy of meeting, playing, celebrating and making longtime friends through golf. Last month we featured a photo of the Demarests with an unknown couple -we found them! That couple is Bud and Kay McConnell, Kay lives on Dassia and hope she saw it! TA was held at Oceanside Muni on June 14. Results are on the OHGC.net. CTP winners were Scott Widdes and Natalie Sentz. Our tournament at The Links at LSM July 11 was a blast-see OHGC.net for results! 80 Guys played on our Father's Day Guys & Dolls complete a mixer in the Lanai hosted by Patti Smith and her team of volunteers. The Boldt's and Komisarek's won low gross on the day with a scorching 22 including an Eagle on #8. By the time this comes out we will have had our July 18 tournament and summer hot dog fun! The lake is taking shape and water is f lowing (see drone photo below). We all can't wait to play the back 9 and are anxiously waiting for it to be ready, safe and challenging to say the least. Looks like water is in play on 10, 11, 14, 17 and 18.
