| OHCC LIVING | AUGUST 2026 | 5 Last October, I was in Costco, minding my own business, when I got the call. Ann Collins, our Master Board Treasurer, was retiring and asked whether I would consider finishing her term. I said no. That didn't work. I previously served on the Budget and Financial Advisory Committee and had authored an article explaining how HOA reserves work. Apparently, that caught someone's eye. So, on November 20, 2025, I attended my first Master Board meeting as Treasurer. At that meeting, I told the community during open forum that I had no aspirations to serve on the Master Board beyond this term and would not be running for a seat when the term expired in August. And I didn't. I stepped up because there was an immediate need and I had relevant skills. I share that story for one reason: to encourage others in our community to step up and serve when asked. Service does not always come at the perfect time. It is not always convenient. Sometimes it begins with a phone call you did not expect and an answer you did not plan to change. This year, six candidates are running for three open seats on the Master Board. They may have diverse backgrounds, different ideas, and different priorities, but they all share one important thing in common: they were willing to step up and serve our community. They have done their part. Now please do yours- VOTE. Your vote is how you tell the Master Board what matters to you and whom you trust to shape this community and help guide it forward. More importantly, I want to say something about the true backbone of Ocean Hills Country Club. In my opinion, it is not the Master Board. It is the volunteers. And we have many — many hundreds of hours volunteered by hundreds of individuals. One of the most impressive things I have witnessed during my time on the Board is the extraordinary number of hours, the quiet work, and the dedication our volunteers, fellow neighbors, give to this community — to each and every one of us. Much of that work happens behind the scenes. It is not always noticed. It is not always thanked. And I know it can sometimes feel discouraging. But please know this: your work matters. It matters to the committees you serve on, the events you help bring to life, the facilities you help improve, the neighbors you support, and the community you help sustain and change. And it matters to me. So, to every volunteer reading this: thank you. Stay with it. We need you. It has been an honor to serve, even for a short time. I am grateful for the opportunity, grateful for those who helped me along the way, and grateful to be part of a community where people still answer the call to serve. Even when they first say no in Costco.
