SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | AUGUST 2026 7 By Tine Pauro If a major earthquake or other widespread disaster strikes our community, traditional ways of communicating may not be available. Cell phones could be overloaded, power may be out, and emergency responders will have many neighborhoods to check. That's where your Red/Green Emergency Status Card becomes an important tool. These cards were distributed to every resident by our Welcome Committee and are designed to provide a simple visual signal to emergency volunteers conducting neighborhood surveys. GREEN means: "We are OK. No assistance is needed at this time." RED means: "Someone in this home needs help." By placing the appropriate color in a front window where it can be easily seen from the street, you can quickly communicate your household's status without making a phone call. This allows emergency teams to identify homes needing immediate assistance and helps them prioritize their response when every minute counts. To help everyone become familiar with this process, the Emergency Preparedness Advisory Committee (EPAC) will be conducting a community-wide Red/Green Card Drill in the coming months. On the day of the drill, residents will simply place the GREEN side of their card in a front-facing window visible from the street. Volunteers will conduct a neighborhood survey just as they would following a real emergency. Please don't wait until the day of the drill. Take a few minutes today to locate your Red/Green Card and place it somewhere easy to find - perhaps with your emergency supplies or near your front door. You may even want to keep a small roll of tape with it so it's ready to display if needed. Can't find your card? Replacement Red/Green Cards are available at The Lodge. Please stop by and pick one up before the drill. We hope these cards are never needed during an actual emergency, but being prepared today helps protect our entire community tomorrow. Thank you for doing your part to make our neighborhood a safer and more resilient place to live. EPAC is looking for volunteers! If you have questions or would like to help, please call John Glueck (559) 706-5215, jglueck@ gmail.com or Gregg Tyler (208) 899-9577 glintrude@yahoo.com. Where Are Your Red & Green Emergency Cards?
