60 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2026 As noted in the pictures from our June meeting, Jim Seim shares about spiritual foundations and Perry and Sally White lead us in hymns and patriotic songs. We had a great time singing and praying together for our country. Moving forward to our meeting in August. This will be a special meeting on Aug. 16 at 6 pm in the Ballroom. We will be enjoying an evening focusing on Psalm 23; The Lord is a Shepherd who leads, provides, restores, protects, encourages, guides and is present with those who follow Him. We will celebrate this Psalm through a variety of music. Please join us for an evening for the soul. Also, we will celebrate with the Handbells duet. Please note, the date and location for the August meeting will be for this special evening only. Looking forward to seeing you for our special meeting on Aug. 16 in the Ballroom at 6 pm. For more information or transportation needs, call Jim Dobos at (760) 486-8606 or Kathie Sundstrom at (303) 903-6850. ~ Jim and Julia Dobos The Gathering Remembering Shirley Caldwell The African American Cultural Club lost one of its brightest lights with the passing of our beloved member, Shirley Jean Caldwell. To know Shirley was to observe a lesson in warmth, dedication, and effortless style. Born on April 30, 1946, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Shirley was a very conscientious person. A graduate of Lincoln High School, she mastered shorthand, dictation, and speed typing — skills that paved the way for a stellar corporate career. After marrying her husband, Charles "Sonny" Caldwell in 1964 and welcoming their son, Charles "Scotty" Jr., the family moved to Carson, California. Shirley's strong administrative talents led her to work for major companies like Shell Oil, Arco, Lightolier®, and eventual retirement from Boeing Aircraft. Shirley and her husband moved to Four Seasons in 2009, where she joined the AACC, bringing her signature skills with her. Her sister, Minnie Lathrop, is also a resident of Four Seasons. If you ever attended an AACC event, you undoubtedly encountered Shirley and Minnie at the same time (see inset photo at right). They were always together, like two "peas in a pod." Shirley was an absolute asset to the AACC. From the beginning, Shirley found her place volunteering within the club: Ticket sales! Yes, ticket sales was her thing, and she was good at it. She took complete ownership of the role: selling tickets for every event, greeting people with her warm personality, and radiant smile, and making sure everyone felt welcome. She was someone we could always count on, participating in every single event we held. She instantly became the heart of our hospitality, always greeting everyone with her signature smile. Beyond her faithful service, Shirley was a vibrant presence. She loved life's simple pleasures, going to church, playing cards, dominoes, and spending time with her grandchildren. And we cannot forget her impeccable fashion sense; Shirley always dressed to the nines, frequently gracing our AACC events in her stunning African outfits. Though she left this earth on May 21, 2026, and was celebrated on June 5 at Trinity Baptist Church, her spirit remains a permanent fixture of our club. The AACC remembers Shirley for her smiles, dedication, and the beautiful Godly woman she was. She will be deeply missed. The AACC meets on the first Monday of each month at 6 pm at The Courts.
