68 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2026
As the United States celebrated the 250th anniversary of
declaring our independence from Britain and King George, the
Tennis Club reprised our Red-Blue tournament. Last played on The
Lodge tennis courts before Pickleball became a religious movement
and needed more dedicated courts, close friends Irve Sturmer and
Howard Lyon, now deceased, could engage in brotherly banter and
peaceful competition on the courts instead of in the courts. Now,
in more rancorous times where red and blue are not just primary
colors, they're our identities, the new tournament was more about
playing tennis for fun and not for victories. But we did keep score.
Captained by Tracy Mahan, the Blue team accumulated 55 games
won, and the Red team captained by Larry Zimmerman won 41
games. Chuck Beckman (duh!) scored 20 wins for the Blue team,
and Howard Levine and Bev Haller contributed 14 wins for their
Red team. Then everybody got together to eat.
Looking forward, the Tennis Club will participate in the FSB
Senior Olympics with competition on Sept. 5 and 12. Depending
on the number of sign-ups, we will have Men's Doubles, Women's
Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. Awards will be provided by the HOA
on Oct. 22.
Mike Olson continues to manage the Recycling project, generating
significant funding (especially the wine bottles) that supports the
activities of the Club. Look for the email reminders about collection
dates, typically every other month.
Please watch your Tennis Club emails to see the start times for
the Saturday FUNdamental drills and helpful coaching. Play Days
are held on the last Saturday of each month, unless there is a special
Club event. All residents are welcome at the Drills and Play Days.
The Tennis Club Committee meets monthly on the last Monday at 4
pm at The Summit. Members are welcome to attend.
