38 | THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2026 | Colony Couples 2Ball By Dennis Murphy, 951-461-0457 July's Colony Couples 2Ball results are posted for this year's Independence Day Celebration… e event was played with 41 active players on the links under blue skies and warm temperatures. We elded six full teams of six and one ve-man team having a blind player. e results truly mirror a result which mimics the unknown of the eventual outcome. More oen than not, the team garnering the highest gross score can sweep the teams with a lucky outcome if the boggy holes (there are three) are coupled with boggy+ scores. In this case, the high gross score of 49 was coupled with an adjusted score of -18 strokes for a net of 31. e score fell short by two strokes to win the tournament, a nail biter. is was another Funday event on the links completed as we enter the second half of the 2026 season. If you are interested, give me a call or drop me an eMail at dmurph44@vrizon.net and I will send you a tournament schedule (rst ursday of the month), rules of the game and include you in our active mailing list. Our next contest is Aug. 6, requirements are to be able to grasp a club! Being a member of the Men's or Women's Golf Clubs is not required. Just pick up some sticks and join us for a friendly aernoon of fun. I look forward to hearing from you and see ya on the links! Men's Golf By Greg Gries As summer moves in we switch to a 7:30 am start to try to beat the heat. We are very happy to welcome two new tournament directors, Jim Nachtigal and Phil Johnson. They each have run tournaments and leagues in the past and they will be bringing new ideas for games and other features of tournaments to our league. They switch every two weeks which gives each a break from the TD job grind. Thumbs up to both of them! The men's club is looking for Colony resident golfers who want to be a member of an active and vibrant golf league. We play a variety of games such as scrambles, shambles, and individual games which include contests for closest to the pin and lowest number of putts. The most senior and higher handicap golfers can play from the red tees. Membership benefits include monthly luncheons, two major championships a year (one stroke play and one match play), and a year-end Awards Banquet. We also sponsor the charity Pancake Breakfast twice a year to raise money for high school student golf scholarships. Last year we raised over $3,000 thanks to Colony generosity and a team of golfers that can cook a pancake. If you would like to join or renew your membership there are paper membership forms in the pro shop on the counter by the door or you can contact George Herrera at 760-533-0350. If you want to play golf with us, contact our Tournament Director Jim Nachtigal at (530) 210-1816 or jim.nachtigal3@gmail.com.
