40 | THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2026 | Our Fourth of July tournament was an absolute blast! From the first serve to the final point, the courts were filled with laughter, friendly competition, and outstanding community spirit. Players and spectators embraced the holiday by wearing festive patriotic attire, creating a sea of red, white, and blue that made the event even more special. The fabulous food kept everyone fueled throughout the day, and the fun was truly beyond compare. Whether you were playing, cheering from the sidelines, or simply enjoying the festive atmosphere, it was a wonderful way to celebrate Independence Day with friends and neighbors. A special thank you goes to our HOA for extending the shade cover over the spectator area of the courts. The additional shade made a tremendous difference, providing a cool and comfortable place for everyone to relax and enjoy the matches. Your continued support of our pickleball community is greatly appreciated. If you haven't joined us yet, you're missing out on one of the most enjoyable events in our community. We have a fantastic time every month, welcoming players of all skill levels. So, grab a paddle, bring your enthusiasm, and come give pickleball a try. We promise you'll have a great time and meet some wonderful people along the way. We can't wait to see you at our next tournament! Pickleball By Scott Ross, 310-213-3362 Ladies Golf By Judy Lebovitz, 951-461-0065 For our July luncheon, we had decorated the room in a Mexican theme for a "fix your own tostada" catered by Palomar Winery. It was so enjoyable, and the food was delicious. As I noted in last month's issue, we had planned to have our annual Charity Tournament in October. Unfortunately, due to the condition of the golf course and the uncertainty if it will be up and running by then, we have decided to cancel the tournament and do something else to allow us to give our annual donations to Michelle's Place and Hospice of the Valleys. We hope to know more about this next month. We presented the trophy to our new 18-hole Golf Club Champion, Debbie Johnson, and Linda Bell Lathum was awarded as our 9-hole champion. Awards were also given to all ladies in the 9-hole group who were winners in various other categories. We were pleased to welcome Toni Shaw as a new member to our 9-hole group. To avoid the worst of the summer heat, we tee off during the summer at 7:30 am. Our monthly lunch meetings are very social and are also informative. It would be a pleasure to have you join us. Feel free to contact me or our Membership Chair, Linda Peterson at 360- 790-9590, to learn more about our club. Meanwhile, we hope to see you on the links! Linda Latham won the 9 holers Club Championship Debbie Johnson club champion
