Sydney Porcelli-Cochr an, age 79, was a resident of Sun Lakes since
2018. She grew up in Yuba City, California, where she went to school and put herself
through college, earning a masters degree in microbiology. Later she moved to Ukiah
with her husband Len, where they opened a restaurant/beer bar with pool tables for
customers' entertainment. Syd worked long hours and laughingly described herself
as a tavern wench. Len later opened a custom cabinet shop when they moved to Palm
Desert. Sydney worked at Eisenhower Hospital as a microbiologist, retiring after 20
years.
In 2018, Sydney and Jim were married in a beautiful backyard wedding. As time
went by, they worked side by side planting exotic f lowers in their garden. She was
active in several clubs in Sun Lakes where she made so many friends.
On May 25, she passed away in the loving arms of her husband Jim, after a 13-year
battle with Parkinson's.
For everyone who knew Sydney, she will be remembered for her cheerfulness and
beautiful smile.
