Racquet Club Dinkers turned into dancers at our club's fourth annual Summer Chill concert on a "hot" July night on the Lanai. Classic rock band Zeelund was a crowd pleaser from start to finish with their extensive 70s/80s play list, amazing vocals, and super cool vibe. While the focus was on the music, the 250 guests came loaded down with an incredible array of finger food and beverages to sustain themselves throughout the evening. The Backstage Party Zone on the Palm Court proved popular once again with its alternative space for large groups to spread out and enjoy a few special perks. Event chair Karena Abrams was the party pro putting it all together with a little help from her wide circle of friends and Bob James' creative vision. Saturday Play & Stays don't take the summer off, but with Labor Day falling on a Saturday, we're starting and ending August with this pickleball/cornhole/social morning at the courts. Despite the early August heatwave, a large crowd showed up on Aug. 1 to enjoy the hospitality of Darlene and Dan Fahey, along with Larry McBride. Cold watermelon and tangy lemonade kept scores of members happily playing and socializing at the Clubhouse courts. With the calendar turning to September, we'll once again carve out time on consecutive Wednesday afternoons for an All- American pastime on the Racquet Club Lawn: cornhole. Paige James and Sue Bourland spearhead our once-a-week Baggin' n Braggin' round robin team competition that opens its fourth season on Sept. 2. While only members can compete, spectators are warmly welcomed to watch from the sidelines. If you're someone who enjoys an afternoon stroll, take a detour behind the Clubhouse between 4 and 6 pm to catch the action. Controlling the trajectory of those beanbags is trickier than it looks! In case you weren't paying attention, there's been a name change for the court reservation system that we all rely on for scheduling. Skedda has transitioned to All Booked, and everyone who books court time needs to convert to the new app (it's free) at their earliest convenience. The unexpected transition was easy-peasy, thanks to our Help Desk mastermind Dave Johnson, and we're happy to resend the instructions to any residents who missed the early August announcement. Anticipation is being built for our annual Pickleball Mixed Doubles Tournament on Saturday, October 3. Mark your calendars and keep your eyes on your email for details about this annual day- long competition. Website: ohccracquetclub.org Help Desk: email ohrchelp@ gmail.com.
