| OHCC LIVING | SEPTEMBER 2026 | 29 Photography Club's exciting new photo contest is underway. The Photography Club is planning a new photography exhibit for the Clubhouse corridor to replace the current display located across from the gym area. The theme is "The Joyful Lens." The exhibit theme is intended to celebrate images that convey a sense of lighthearted joy, whimsy, and enthusiasm. Photos will celebrate the delights in life's small surprises, embrace curiosity, and find playfulness and gratitude in everyday moments. We encourage all club members and residents interested in joining to submit their photographs for consideration and inclusion in this exciting new exhibit. Contest ends at the end of the year. Judging will be in January with special award honors for the top 13 winning photos to be displayed in the Clubhouse corridor. Flyers are available in the Clubhouse Lobby. For more info, please email hallphotos2027@gmail.com. Plus, the OHCC Photo Club display on "America the Beautiful" is now showing for three months in the Art Studio. Please enjoy viewing this photography at your leisure. More than 40 photos were submitted for this show. Some sample photos are below, but the real thing is much more impressive. ~ Jim McDonough – jamespmcdonough@gmail.com Photography Music Lovers Ocean Hills Country Club Has Talent! This was certainly proven at the Music Lovers Club's first open mic night! The evening showcased an amazing variety of performers and musical genres. Four Music Lovers Club Board members, Denise Hernandez, Karla Sando, and Debbie and Mike Cea joined the well-loved Raynaldo Martine in song. Sign-ups continued throughout the evening, with enthusiastic members taking the stage until the very end. Some performers brought their own guitars, while others were accompanied by talented backup guitarists. The night concluded in a wonderfully unconventional way. Slava Grinshpun, an immigrant from the former USSR, shared his poetry and then performed an original song accompanied by his talented guitarist and neighbor Paul Lange. After all, lyrics are poetry set to music. The evening was a huge success and received many compliments from those who attended. Kudos to our hostess and her hardworking team for creating such a memorable night. Following the success of our first open mic night, the Music Lovers Club had two exciting events scheduled for August. First, was our first official Happy Hour featuring acclaimed San Diego musician Jeff Berkley. Guests enjoyed a relaxing summer evening on the Lanai. Our second event featured The Sea Monks, a popular rockabilly band from San Diego, along with a catered barbecue dinner provided by Grand Ole BBQ, the perfect meal to accompany an evening of lively music and dancing. Remember Our Monday Coee House! Every Monday, the Music Lovers Club hosts its Coffee House on the patio from 10 to 11:30 am, featuring our talented musicians. Please stop by, enjoy the music, and support our wonderful performers! Music Lovers Club Board Elections: The Music Lovers Club Board elections will be held on Sat., Oct. 3, in Abravanel Hall. Several board positions need to be filled, and we encourage our members to consider becoming involved. Volunteering is a rewarding way to support the club, meet fellow music lovers, and help shape our future events. We are also continually looking for volunteers to host or assist with our programs. The Music Lovers Club is committed to bringing a wide variety of musical experiences to the music lovers in our community. Thank you to everyone for your continued enthusiasm and support. We welcome everyone and look forward to meeting you at one of our upcoming events! Written by Andrea Anderson PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST - CALL FOR ENTRIES Theme: The Joyful Lens.
