Pet Lovers Club Annual Brunch What a fantastic Pet Lovers Club brunch on Aug. 1. We had 73 members attending and, as always, there was plenty of really great food. A special thanks to Gail Hyams for coming early to help set up. We couldn't have done it without our weekend staff, Sergio and Airplane, having everything set up and preparing coffee. Jacob Keeton from the California Wolf Center gave an informative and interesting presentation on the center and history of the grey wolf and Mexican wolf. When settlers arrived in North America, the wolf population was an estimated two million. By the 1960s, the population had been decimated, and the remaining wolves had become an endangered species. To increase the grey wolf population to healthier levels, the California Wolf Center carefully breeds grey wolves from Mexico with those from California to increase the grey wolf population with genetic diversity for survival. The wolves raised at the center are not released in California but are sent to other states and Mexico. If you get to Julian, be sure to stop in and tour the facility. Our general meeting will be Nov. 7 and we will have a presentation given by Aqua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation in Carlsbad. They will bring Raptor ambassadors to the presentation. The meeting will be on the Lanai, and we are opening the presentation to any OHCC residents interested in attending. On Oct. 1 I will have a sign-up sheet put in the PLC folder at the Clubhouse front desk so we will know how many chairs are needed. We also will be doing our 6th annual Presents for Pets of Meals on Wheels in November. If you want to donate, we will take checks made out to OHCC Pet Lovers Club to help buy items for the gift bags. We also will take PetSmart gift cards in various amounts, pet treats and toys. There are 36 families with 33 cats and 27 dogs.
