After taking a well-deserved summer break during July and August, the Veterans & Friends Club is looking forward to a busy and exciting fall. The SDV Quilters Club has completed the quilt for Homes For Our Troops recipient Seth Wakeling (see pictures). This beautiful quilt will be presented to Seth's family at the key presentation ceremony in Fallbrook (date to be announced). Thank you to all the quilters for their thoughtful and hard work! Some patriotic dates to remember include: • Sept. 7 – Labor Day: A day to honor the contribution of American workers & laborers for their development & achievements in the US. • Sept. 9 – Texas Roadhouse Fundraiser: Obtain your f lier at the Lodge at our Veterans & Friends table to take with you. Present the f lier when paying your tab and a percentage of the tab will be donated by Texas Roadhouse towards our fundraising efforts. • Sept. 11 – Patriot Day: A day to remember the lives lost during the attacks of September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage of the first responders and all who came together during that difficult time. • Sept. 17 – Constitution Day: Celebrating the signing of the United States Constitution in 1787, the document that continues to guide our nation nearly 240 years later. • Sept. 19 – POW/MIA Recognition Day: A time to honor the sacrifices of our Prisoners of War and those who remain Missing in Action, and to remember their families who continue to hope for answers. As we return to our regular meetings, we're already planning several activities and opportunities to support veterans and our community in the months ahead. Our club is built on friendship, service, and patriotism, and we always welcome new members. We look forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new neighbors as we kick off another great season together. Veterans & Friends SDV: September Update Tues., Sept. 15 at 5 pm. You are invited to a chicken dinner and educational event on estate and financial planning, a Veterans' LTC pension and Medicare. The guest speaker will be Robert Skaggs. Sign up at the Clubhouse Movie Night: Michael Fri., Sept. 25 at 5 pm, Ballroom and Sat., Sept. 26 at 3 pm, Inside Deergrass Paradise awaits. Join the fun Sept. 19 from 5 to 8 pm.
