| LIFE IN SOLERA | SEPTEMBER 2026 | 3 FROM THE BOARD B Ton Lucches Flashing Stop Signs: A Bright Idea for a Safer Community Every day, residents walk, bike, drive, and enjoy our community. Keeping our streets safe is a shared responsibility, and one technology is helping neighborhoods across the country improve traffic safety: f lashing LED stop signs. Unlike traditional stop signs, LED-enhanced signs use bright f lashing lights to attract a driver's attention — especially at night, during poor weather, or at busy intersections. Many are solar powered, making them energy-efficient and relatively easy to install. Studies have shown that enhanced stop signs can improve driver awareness and encourage more complete stops, particularly where motorists have a history of rolling through intersections. Increased visibility can help reduce the risk of crashes and protect pedestrians. For HOA communities, f lashing stop signs are most effective at community entrances and exits, intersections with limited visibility, crosswalks near parks, pools, or clubhouses, and areas where residents have reported repeated stop-sign violations. Although f lashing stop signs cost more than standard signs, many boards view them as a long-term investment in resident safety. When combined with responsible driving, pedestrian awareness, and other traffic- calming measures, they can help create a safer environment for everyone. Safe streets begin with every stop.
