| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | SEPTEMBER 2026 | 7 Nobody moves to Sun Lakes because they want mega-warehouses. If you are reading this, you are likely a Sun Lakes resident. And you are informed! However, many of us don't regard what is going on in and about our community as personally relevant. Please reach out and talk to your neighbors. Tell them about how their quality of life is about to be threatened by Northpoint's Sunset Crossroads project. Inform them that the city of Banning would allow more than five million square feet of mega-warehouses and related industrial development to be erected at the eastern most edge of Sun Lakes…that their neighbor down the street could be a data center, or other nasty, unhealthy, 40-foot-high behemoth and bring with it heavy-duty industrial truck traffic — up to 1,700 trucks per day. Advise your friend or acquaintance that it is important they cast their vote in the Nov. 3, 2026, election to stop this from happening. And talk with the people outside Sun Lakes. Many Banning voters do not live near the development and won't understand what the fuss is about. Talk to them about the trucks and the air pollution, the road congestion backing up their streets and the health and safety concerns. Share what you know with friends, relatives and neighbors throughout our city. Only by educating all of the registered Banning voters can we achieve a positive result. And much of that begins here. You play a big part in helping us meet that goal. It's now September; in no time we will be casting our ballots. The San Gorgonio Pass Alliance supports responsible growth. New business can create opportunities. Good jobs will strengthen Banning. Thoughtful development improves our community. But growth should make Banning better — not simply bigger. Development should respect existing neighborhoods, protect public health, fit our infrastructure, and improve quality of life. Banning voters will decide the future of Sunset Crossroads on Nov. 3. Ballots will arrive in October. But the work of informing our community must begin now. Here is how Sun Lakers can help: • Stay informed. Learn the facts about Sunset Crossroads and the consequences for our community. • Stay connected. Visit sgpassalliance.org for facts and opportunities to help. Sign-up for email updates and encourage others to do the same. • Remember Nov. 3. When ballots arrive, voters will decide whether Banning protects its neighborhoods or surrenders them to industrial expansion. You chose Sun Lakes for a reason — it's beautiful. Now let's protect it. SAN GORGONIO PASS ALLIANCE WE SUPPORT RESPONSIBLE GROWTH… LET'S GET THERE! Supervisor's Message By Supervisor Yxstian Gutierrez Getting around could be a challenge for our seniors, but it doesn't have to be! One of the resources we have available to seniors in Riverside County is the Transportation Reimbursement and Information Project (TRIP). TRIP is a service that allows seniors to recruit their own volunteer drivers, like a friend, neighbor, or a family member, and get mileage reimbursement. I'm proud to share that my office provided $2,500 in CID funding to help keep this program running for our residents. TRIP supports older adults and people with disabilities who are unable to drive, and public transportation is not an option. Eligible destinations include medical appointments, errands, grocery shopping, visiting family and friends, church and community activities, and other essentials. In addition, there is no cost to the trip rider. If you or a loved one could benefit from this service, call (951) 653-0740.
