By Debbie Floyd I would like to tell you about a place that is very special to me, a place that I have volunteered at for the past seven years. is place is Martha's Village and Kitchen. Martha's is so much more than just a food bank. ey oer life changing programs based on the nationally recognized "Continuum of Care Model." is means when someone enters their program, they get a case manager that helps them with: • Career and education assistance: help building a resume, help with interviewing skills, help nding a job, help nding clothes • Child development center at a reduced rate • Healthcare • Housing for three months: ey have approximately 150 beds separated by the men's wing, the women's wing, and a family wing When the temperature hits 100 degrees, they open a cooling center for everyone. ey have games to play, TVs to watch, and ice water to cool you o. ey also oer public showers for anyone that wants to clean up. I volunteer in their kitchen, prepping food, then feeding whoever wants a good homemade meal from 11 to 11:45 am. Everything we serve is fresh and homemade! We give out prepared salads and sandwiches which are donated from the local stores. I'm sure you're asking yourself, "How can I help?" ere are many ways: • If you have experience with resumes or hiring procedures, their case managers would love to have your help. • If you have a nancial background, they would love your advice on money matters. • If organization is your gi, they would love your help organizing the pantry. • If you would like to start a can drive for goods or hygiene products drive, they would love that! eir pantry is open for everyone who needs help and it's getting low. • If you would like to start a toy drive around Christmas time, they would love that as well. Martha's Village and Kitchen gives the less fortunate a place to feel safe, a reprieve from hunger, and hope to thrive again.
