| OHCC LIVING | OCTOBER 2026 | 39 The club hosted the annual tournament on Aug. 8 where 65 participated and the winners are in the photo. Congratulations to Rosie, Abbie, Sandra and Jacqueline. Once again, a big thank you to our Tournament co-chairs, Patti Lightholder and Mary Blackman. The volunteers who supported this effort are in the other photograph. Member, Jirina Svoboda generously donated beautiful bracelets for the winners and key volunteers — thank you! Our club can order the NMJL playing cards and $6 of the fee gets donated to a charity of our choice. For the past two years, North Coast Hospice has been our selected charity. This year the membership will vote, the board is narrowing the choices to four and when you pay for your card you can vote for your top choice. Wendy Minkin has stepped up and agreed to chair this effort for 2027. In next month's article we will share the process for ordering cards. Thank you, Elizabeth Westwater, who chaired this project, for the past two years. Here are tips for the Charleston from Chat GPT - for those who have played with me, you know it pains me to stop the second half of the Charleston but sometimes it's the prudent thing to do. American Mah Jongg The Charleston Cheat Sheet Before You Pass — Take A Good Look! The Charleston is your chance to improve your hand — but don't automatically pass away good tiles just because you can. The First Charleston Mandatory: Right —> Across —> Left Look for: • Pairs and potential pairs • Three or more tiles that work together • Tiles that fit more than one possible hand • A promising direction on the card Try to pass your least useful tiles while keeping your options open. Written by Jacqueline Ettinger Mahjongg Club Are the beautiful fall days here yet? Well, while we wait for them, let's take advantage of our OHCC Clubhouse for doing Aerobics! Join us in the Aerobics Class and have fun as we continue to improve our strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and overall body conditioning. The Aerobics class has low impact; there is NO floor work but lots of fun music. Aerobics classes meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in Abravanel Hall from 10 to 11 am. Based on your schedule, feel free to attend the number of classes that fit your schedule. If you are new to the class, you can attend two classes before joining the Aerobics Club to see if it is the fun exercise, you are looking for. The cost is $5 per class paid directly to Christine Alesiani, our instructor. The annual dues for 2026 Aerobic Club are $ 10. Note: There is no class on the second Wednesday of each month when the Garden Club holds its meeting. Written by Kathy Palys Aerobics Boomer Connection Potluck The Boomer Connection meets for happy hour at 5 pm on the first Friday of every month from April through October (weather permitting). We are an informal group that gathers on the Palm Court to socialize and listen to music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. In the past, every household brought a dish to share potluck style. If you are comfortable with this, please bring your salad, entree, casserole, hot dish, dessert, etc. along with a serving utensil for the buffet table. If you do not wish to share with the community, please bring your own meal. Everything else is "bring your own," i.e. beverages, dishes, utensils, cups, glasses, napkins. Outdoor games are welcome!
